Draft at Lucky Baldwinís, $8/pint. Pours clear and pale with some white head and a bit of spotty lacing. Aroma: tropical weed. For reals. I mean that in the best possible way. Iíve made a critical error, I can tell ... showing up early for this work "ice breaker" means I damn well may make a fool of myself later. But fuck it, I heard a voice saying "do it. Duet." Anyway, dry and hop driven. This is all about the hops. So dry, assertive bitterness, and so so nice. Medium+ body, oily texture, average carbonation, long lasting bitter finish. Overall: gonna order another, even if an $8 ipa is offensive to me.

Bottle, shared by saultbauls in a location remote to my dining room.
The beer pours a pale golden color with a good head and good lacing on the glass.

The aroma is fruity forward with a bit of pine and melon, some tropical fruit and a little touch of onion. Overall itís aromatic, appetizing and just all around very hoppy.

The flavor is plenty bitter but balanced with a touch of honey character and a bunch of fruit forward happiness. Tropical fruit, herbal hops, pine and citrus are harmoniously balanced. The beer finishes perfectly dry.

One of the best IPAs Iíve had no doubt.

"Pretty solid brew! Two of my more liked varieties of hops play nicely off of each other. I canít help comparing this to the awesomeness that is Nelson (especially since we just had a ridiculously good, ridiculously fresh one two days prior). Surprisingly, Nelson is the easy winner (4.4 bordering on 4.5, this is bordering on a 4.2+). Thatís not a knock on this very very good IPA...Nelson is just that good. Citrus (mainly orange peel) are in the fore, great aroma, hoppy and bitter and fruity, but never overpowers, which is what Alpine does SO well. "

Tap at the brewery. Lighter overall than expected. Nice bitterness and balanced with malt. Really a fairly standard, well made IPA. Nothing crazy and something you could drink every day.

*Updated scores after my recent trip to the brewery where I had it on draft.* *My old Review is below.*

Bottle courtesy of nickd717. Poured into a Duvel tulip. Thanks again Nick!

A - Pours golden yellow, with amber orange hues, with a thick pillow of two finger tall white head leaving light webs of lacing down the glass.

S - Smells of pungent citric hops, pine resin, and sweet caramel malt. The hops are still pretty strong but they are fading quick, glad I drank it now.

T - Plenty of sticky pine resin up front mixes well with the slightly dulled citric hops. Hints of sweet caramel malt, dulled tropical fruits, and a light chewiness toward the end. Finish is a mix of caramel malt and lingering hop bitterness. While this one is a tiny bit past its prime it is still very nice.

M - Medium body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Sticky sweet feel with plenty of lingering sweet malt and hop bitterness in the finish.

O - A little old but still quite enjoyable. I hope to have this one on-tap at the source some day. Maybe my next trip to SoCal??

Bottle. Aroma is citrusy hoppy. Pour is golden copper. Some lacing on the glass. Taste is a little bitter. Cloying mouthfeel and bitterly hopped. Meh.

Slightly Hazy golden copper color. Light sticky hop smells. Big hoppy flavor, bitter that builds up quick from a smooth start. The bitter stains your mouth then finishes dry. Amazing big IPA.

UPDATED: JUL 10, 2014 Bomber received in trade. Thank you StefanSD! Pours tiny hazy pale golden with a rather thing frothy offwhite head that leaves some spotty trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is fruity, herbal and floral with cracker, grapefruit juice, pine needles, freshly cut grass, dried flowers, lemon balm, cape gooseberries and subtle hints of biscuits. Taste is slightly bitter, tiny fruity, tiny floral and herbal with crackers, grapefruit juice, pine needles, freshly cut grass, lemon balm, minerals, orange zest, lemon zest, pineapple juice, unripe mango and subtle hints of chives. Mouthfeel is crisp, dry and medium bodied. Finish is bitter, tiny fruity and herbal with crackers, grapefruit juice, pine needles, freshly cut grass, lychee, orange zest, lemon zest and lemon balm. Simple yet close to perfect!
