3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 9, 2004 ***I have been informed that this brew hasn’t been aged in the casks.... this is just a preview....so hopefully the beer to follow will be mind blowing.***** will probably bring this beer a little down rating-wise, but this was a little bit of a dissapointment. Sure it was 17% and you can’t really tell, but as far as flavor goes, this seemed to be a little too young. LIke a fine wine, this brew, which was aged in Jack Daniels casks, needs at least another year to be as complex as is should be. Flavor was mild with a slight bitterness, but as with the olde school barleywine, will blossom.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
At PP SAF, malt and hop balance nose, very nice. Flavor is sweet, bitterness needs to balance out sweetness. Pretty good considering 17%

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught, Toronado. Body is medium amber. Aroma is moderately hoppy (apricot, resin), moderately malty (cookie), with notes of sherry, wood, alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. A little disjointed/unfocused in the aroma, but rich and balanced well. Doesn’t seem like 17%.

opaque dark orange, fine beige head, big sweet fruity aroma with a peachy apricot character, rich malt flavor, well balanced with earthy hops, dry but with lots of fruity character, a few esters floating around, good but not great

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On cask at Obriens. Pours a dark orange hue with thin ring of dissipating white head, fairly cloudy. Nose is strong sweet malts, dark fruits, alcohol warmth, lighter fruits and hops in the background. Flavor is young and a bit hot, sweet bread malts soaked in alcohol with hints of vanilla and wood hit the palate quickly leaving behind a stingy sensation of dark fruits coupled with apple a pearlike esters, moderate bitterness with a light citrus flavor fills out the sweet finish. Medium-full bodied, watery slick texture with minimal carbonation. This BA b-wine definitely needs more time in the barrrel, fusels are too hot and texture too thin, try again down the road.
