COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Collaboration with New Belgium. A monastic inspired Belgian pale ale dryhopped & spiced with pink peppercorns. This is the collaboration beer brewed here with The geniuses from New Belgium Brewing, Peter and Jamie. The beer is named “Gouden Vallei” which is Flemish for “Golden Valley.” It started as a beer similar to “Orval” which also means “Gold Valley.” The same brewing style, yeast inoculation and Brettanomyces with dryhopping were employed. The real twist is the ample use of “Pink Peppercorns” which are not spicey hot but rather sweet and herbal, and they smell glorious.

500mL bottle, pours a very cloudy golden orange with a medium white head. Aroma of peppercorns, pepper, brett yeast, some spice and herbal notes - no sweetness at all. Flavour brings out the pink peppercorns, but, as per the description, they are not spicy, but rather herbal. Not a whole lot of the brett yeast, nor is there any sweetness - it sort of transitions into a dry, bready Orval-like Belgian ale. Dry, herbal palate overall. Decent, but I’m not a huge fan of the herbal notes from the peppercorns. Recognizably high quality but not overly enjoyable tome.

Pours clear golden with a light orange hue and sandy head. The aroma is light, sweet, refreshing, but I want some more there. The flavor of light funk and tart comes from the Brett on the tongue nicely, but a little too light as well. Not quite crisp, but refreshing and light drinking.

Tap. Pours a hazy orange color with a white head. Aroma is of the pink peppercorns, tropical fruits like pineapple, white grape, orange, tangerine and subtle brett. The aroma follows the nose with lots of tropical fruit with notes of pineapple, pink peppercorns, orange, tangerine, peach and subtle brett. The body is medium with a dry mouth feel. Overall a pretty tasty Belgian style hoppy brew.

Bottle; Pour is fairly clear golden with a nice fine bubbled white head into this tulip; nice retention, and sticky lacing is present here. Pink Peppercorns is brilliant - it was a new one for me ; The nose is grassy, herbal indeed, grapefruit, and generally spicey. It’s been a while since I’ve had a brew that I found to come across in an incredible and somewhat new way. Up front the pink peppercorns shine nicely, more grassy hops, with a spice note, light breadiness, yet the dry hopping comes across as feeling like an alpine brew to me. I’m not getting much out of the brett... anyway - loved it.

Alpine Gouden vallei. Tap at brewpub. Hazed medium golden orange with a one finger off-white head, creamy with fair retention. Floral perfume hop nose with some fruity sweet (almost bubble gummish) notes and a little dry hops. Flavor is more herbal with some white pepper, fruity notes pulling back a bit. Scant sweetness. Dry finish, bitterness at a 3, earthy light cracker malt lingering. No brett/funk at this point that I notice. Moderate carbonation with light body. Pleasantly surprised to find another keg on tap. 8-4-8-4-15--3.9

Bottle… Pours cloudy and golden with a mid-sized, fat-bubbled, creamy, white head. Great retention. The aromatics are fruity and peppery – I’m talking spice rack pepper. Full-bodied and creamy with kicked-back carbonation. The flavor is tangy-sweet and spicy – fruity, peppery and a touch bretty. Finishes bittersweet and mildly tangy with a kiss of spice rack pepper... then it dries right on out. Fairly Orval-like in some ways; totally different in others. Very unique and very well done. Bottle courtesy of richiesd!

Bottle... Poured hazy, golden, pastel yellow with a nice, frothy, white head. Nose had grapefruit. Very much a lot of citrus and grapefruit. Some bitter rind-like tones too with a hint of aspirin and sweet tarts. Some pepper spice with yeast spice and musky tones. More citrus and earthy hop flavors that may have distracted from the Brett, yet it may have been too young in the bottle to really let those bugs takes over.

(Bottle) Pours cloudy orange golden with an off-white head. The aroma holds pink pepper up front with undertones of floral and fruity hops, white bread and dough. The flavour is light sweet, medium bitter and tiny acidic with notes of pineapples, mango, passion fruit, melon, flowers, pepper and bread. The mouthfeel is clean, soft and light numbing from the peppers. Medium carbonation. Fruity, bready and spicy finish. Near medium bodied.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of nightrider. Thanks! JetsonFest II. Clear, a bit bright orange appearance with a pretty thin white head. Fairly grapefruit forward, somewhat spicy peppery, citrusy, a bit musty aroma. Fairly big barnyard, dusty, straw, spicy peppercorn, a bit funky citrusy flavor with a bit spicy, floral finish. Not as good as some of the others from Alpine Beer, but not bad.

Pour out of bottle, thanks to Aaron for the pour! Hazy orange pour with thin white head, aroma has notes of big white pepper, some slight pear, grape, hints of peach, some nice lemon notes as well, smells really nice. Taste is nice lemon pepper, some spice, peppercorn, hints of biscuit, bread, yeast notes, finishing fairly sweet but pretty dry. This is tasty.
