Pours dark brown with almost no head at all. The nose is vanilla, leather, toffee, caramel, cheese, booze and hay. The taste is sweet with very little bitter but doesn't take away from it. The mouthfeel is elegant, smooth and soft, a big heavy body and a long finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared by AlohaC. Pours with a clear bronze hued body with a small off-white head. Aromas are of bourbon, huge brown sugar notes, vanilla, chocolate, nutty, molasses, marzipan. Pretty epic. Flavors are of maple, bourbon, oak, vanilla, chocolate, nutty, fudge. Damn good. Big. Still pretty bitter, warming, low carbonation, full bodied, chewy even. Delicious.

12oz bottle shared by Bill at a tasting with a bunch of beer heads. Poured a murky orange color with small head but excellent spotty lacing left behind. Tasting notes were toffee crunch, bourbon, and tasty nutty malt. Medium bodied with lighter carbonation. Delicious and easy going for the 15 percent, i mean really smooth for that much alcohol. I can see why it is rated so damn high. Well played Alpine.

Big thanks to Mike for breaking out this gem! Dark orange pour. Caramel, toffee, vanilla, prune/raisin, bourbon. Flavor is so smooth and easy drinking. Huge complex malt profile, toffee, caramel, vanilla, bourbon, prune, raisin, brown sugar. Full body, little carbonation. Stunning barleywine.

Gift from SJ. I love barley wines. Some hint of honey and moelasses. A nice blend of dark fruit, cinnamon and caramel malt. It will rock you.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a cloudy amber brown color with a few random bubbles. The nose is first class; big ripe fruits, caramel, toffee, bourbon, vanilla with some prune. The flavor again is first class; smooth drinking caramel, toffee, bourbon and vanilla. There is a juicy ripe fruitiness that is also present. The alcohol is warming, but not that noticeable. Very enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy deep orange color with a slight head. The aroma gives this beer away as a barley wine! Aroma is awesome, caramel, toffee, and bourbon. Heavy mouthfeel. Very smooth. Caramel, woody, some charcoal type notes, and some booze. Delicious.

Bottle shared by Thorpe429 and Amyliz4. Thanks Mike and Amy! Served in a blind taste test with Kuhnhenn Bourbon Barrel Barleywine and Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Barleywine. A: This beer appears copper / orange in color. The liquid is slightly hazy and still. The beer has virtually no head, but does leave a bit of lacing on the tulip. A respectable appearance, given the style and massive alcohol content. S: The aroma is very nice, with scents of toffee, caramels, sweet malt, and bourbon. T: Much like the aroma, this beer tastes "Great". The beer is sweet and definitely has an alcohol / bourbon presence, but neither of these aspects are overpowering or become cloying in any way. M: Medium in body, with fairly low carbonation. Alcohol content hidden very well. I had no idea that this weighed in at 14%! D: My favorite of the three bourbon barrel-aged barleywines (I realized after the fact), I would definitely recommend this beer. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 01-07-2011

355mL at Woodshop 7. Pours a flat, muddy, lighter amber. Low to zero carbonation. Nose is savory with soy, truffle, shitake; sugared carrot, smoke, salt. Taste is salted caramel, honey, truffle oil, dense toffee. Palate has some heavy tannic structure to near paper. A little too thinned out and over oaked.

A: Poured a murky brown color with a small tan cap that fades quickly S: Caramelized brown sugar, toffee, faded hops, bourbon and some booze T: Bourbon, maple syrup, caramelized sugar, toffee, faded citrus hops, dark fruits and some wood Earthiness M: Big body, lower carbonation O: Unsure which vintage I sampled but I felt this beer was falling off and peaking already
