3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at the brewery. It pours orange with a nice white head. The aroma is hoppy with some citrus and florals. The flavor is the same with the Alpine signature blissfully unbalanced hop potency that really showcases the complexity of the leafy citrus qualities. The is a hint of bread in there. It has a very nice body.

Huge, huge, HUGE thanks to mday for this. After multiple unanswered ISOs, this gets delivered to my doorstep announced. Glad I got to experience at least part of your California trip.
Pours a moderate yellow-orange color with a white head and some pretty good lacing. Nose brings forward some really nice tropical, floral, and citrus notes. It seems like they’ve crammed every single hop variety into this one and then balanced them all out perfectly. The taste is similar with some really well defined hop notes. I got the most out of the tropical hops, though Amyliz4 got more from others. This is just stupendously well done with a beautiful balance between bitterness and drinkability. This is probably the best APA that I have ever had. Thanks again, Mike--I really owe you one.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: MAY 1, 2011 A fresh growler provided by Alex, drank from a Cigar City snifter... The body is a bright dark clear gold with a beautiful off-white head. The head rises a few fingers and settles with a nice cap, decent lacing. Crystal colors and contrast, looks great... The aroma is very sharp, at the most basic level its a mixture of catty/dank and sweet amarillo like hops. Other notes of pine and lemon, very good. Its sweet but dank... The taste isn’t as sweet as the nose, more of steady hops throughout, not super bitter though. Light grapefruit on the front. This is an apa that tastes like an ipa but drinks like an apa. Has to be one of the most flavorful drinkable 5% beers out there. The aroma is outstanding, well worth trying.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
I had this today on tap at Alpine Beer company outside of San Diego. It pours a light golden color with a medium white head and good carbonation, very attractive. Aromas are citrus! I think they used Citra hops for dry-hopping this and it’s evident. The taste is all citrus hops, nice and bitter. Excellent for a fairly low alcohol Pale Ale hop bomb.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
From the tap poured an amber color with a fair amount of head. Nice light hoppy flavor with a lingering finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the brewery today. Golden amber with the slightest haze. Nose straight up hops. Light and sweet-sharp. Taste is mid cotrus hops to sharper hop back. Good middle of the palate IPA. Bit of citrus in the hops. Nice.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Growler. Big thanks to alex for sharing... Pours a golden cidery, mostly transparent hue with a thin to medium soapy white head quickly reducing to a thin flimsy film... Dank fresh potent hops upfront while simultaneously combining with tangerine, lemony, and a general citrusy profile. Somewhat sweet through the middle but overly so. Awesome... Flavors don’t sway too far from the nose which is completely fantastic. Dank, fresh and crisp with very assertive yet so drinkable. Carbonation and light to medium bodied. Wow this hits the spot in all aspects.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Slightly disappointing. Pours lightly hazy, golden yellow with a big white head, spider web lace. Smells lightly citrusy hoppy with a moderate, sweet malt backbone backing it up. Tastes the same. Light, somewhat bright, hop flavors. Sweet with some citrus, light bitterness. Sweet malt backbone. Light body, good carbonation.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap @ Alpine. Golden yellow with a small head. Aroma of tropical fruit, flowers and some light malt aromas. The flavor is dry bitterness on top of a lightly sweet malt base. Medium to light body with average carbonation and a dry bitter finish. Another excellent IPA from Alpine.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap at Toronado SD a couple weeks ago. Pours a medium golden-yellow color with one finger of white foam. The aroma is very hoppy, basically a pine and spruce forest with sharp pine needles and a going-shopping-for-a-Christmas-tree smell. There are lighter notes of flowers, herbs, skunk, and cat piss. Like I said, a very hoppy aroma. Flavor is also full of earthy sticky hops with lots of pine and sharp grapefruit. Though big on hop aroma and flavor, this is not overly bitter. I am surprised that the ABV is this low considering how otherwise big this beer is, though it could probably use a slightly stronger malt backbone. Alpine are the hop perfectionists, and Hoppy Birthday is no exception. (21, 421)
