Growler at Woodshop 7. Not exactly mega fresh since this hasn’t been brewed in awhile, but CP filled and immediately fridged by a Woodshop attendee. Clear to chill haze golden pour. Spotty white foam. Nose is big mango and tangelo. Taste is tangy, nutty, rich, fresh and chewy butterscotch. Heavy, rich, quenching, elusive butterscotch quality only found in select West Coast IPAs like Port Wipeout, Alesmith IPA, Alpine Duet. Very yummy. Amazing palate. Very bitter through the long finish. Still holding up- will be a knockout fresh on tap.

Tap. Pours a nice golden orange color with a white head. Aroma is super tropical fruit forward, lots of orange, some white grape and grapefruit. Flavor follows the nose tons of tropical fruit with lots of mango and pineapple, lots of juicy hops with the orange and white grape and grapefruit. The body is medium with a dry mouth feel. Overall probably the best APA I have ever had, I love Alpine!

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask. Pours a rich hazed golden with hop particulate and a touch of loose white head. Light crisp malt, mostly 2 row, danky pineapple, peach, light dry peppery pine. More citra hop forward, balanced light malt profile, finishes with saltine cracker dryness. Love the citra and wish I could get this beer frequently.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured up on cask at the brewpub, dry hoped with Citra, with sort of a dirty yet clear gold body with loose like white head. The aroma offers up some grapefruit, citrus cotton candy and floral hop notes around the edges. The taste, despite the cask pour, un leashes a bounty of hoppy goodness that’s a mix of grapefruit, mango, spicy hops and a white wine like quality. There are various flavor hops to start and then the experience flows into increasing levels of drying bitter hoppiness into the finish. It has a fairly thin sessionable body making for a crisp pulsating flavored Pale Ale. Damn.

From notes. First reviewed 8/8/2011. Poured from a growler into a tulip. Thanks readbaron, I’m glad it arrived safely.
Clearly filtered, Hoppy Birthday has a transparent copper orange color with visible resplendent carbonation rising from the bottom to refresh its creamy white head. The head loiters and leaves a good splattering of lace on the glass.
This has a monster hop aroma. Lots of floral notes, mango, orange rind, and pineapple.
Up front the sweet pale malt sets the table for the hops. The hop profile is pretty amazing overall. Lots of mango, grapefruit, and pineapple give this a great, well rounded bitterness. Being a lighter beer, this is something I could easily drink all day during the summer.
This has a nice, smooth carbonation that really helps to keep the beer clean. I like when there is no unpleasantness lingering - the bubbles lift up and carry away any residue so each sip starts out with a refreshed palate.
This is pretty damn good. There are four pale ales I find worth my time, every time. Zombie Dust edges out Hoppy birthday on my personal favorite list, with Daisy Cutter and Alpha King tied for a distant third. That is splitting hairs, though, this is another win for Alpine. You can trust them to do right by the hop gods.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at ABC brewpub. Light slightly murky pour with plenty of frothy white foam that clings to the glass. Nose is a good dose of floral notes hops, and slight citrus. Taste follows the nose with very little by way of a malt backbone. Crisp and refreshing. At 5% abv this by far one of the best sessionable beers around.
