Tasted from a growler, in a hotel room in San Francisco. Pours slightly hazy, hay-coloured. Aroma of orange jam, citrus, fruity perfume. High percieved bitterness, average carbonation. Taste is perfume, pine, jam. Really tasty! Something I could drink forever

Poured up on cask at the brewpub, dry hoped with Citra, with sort of a dirty yet clear gold body with loose like white head. The aroma offers up some grapefruit, citrus cotton candy and floral hop notes around the edges. The taste, despite the cask pour, un leashes a bounty of hoppy goodness that’s a mix of grapefruit, mango, spicy hops and a white wine like quality. There are various flavor hops to start and then the experience flows into increasing levels of drying bitter hoppiness into the finish. It has a fairly thin sessionable body making for a crisp pulsating flavored Pale Ale. Damn.

From notes. First reviewed 8/8/2011. Poured from a growler into a tulip. Thanks readbaron, I’m glad it arrived safely. Clearly filtered, Hoppy Birthday has a transparent copper orange color with visible resplendent carbonation rising from the bottom to refresh its creamy white head. The head loiters and leaves a good splattering of lace on the glass. This has a monster hop aroma. Lots of floral notes, mango, orange rind, and pineapple. Up front the sweet pale malt sets the table for the hops. The hop profile is pretty amazing overall. Lots of mango, grapefruit, and pineapple give this a great, well rounded bitterness. Being a lighter beer, this is something I could easily drink all day during the summer. This has a nice, smooth carbonation that really helps to keep the beer clean. I like when there is no unpleasantness lingering - the bubbles lift up and carry away any residue so each sip starts out with a refreshed palate. This is pretty damn good. There are four pale ales I find worth my time, every time. Zombie Dust edges out Hoppy birthday on my personal favorite list, with Daisy Cutter and Alpha King tied for a distant third. That is splitting hairs, though, this is another win for Alpine. You can trust them to do right by the hop gods.

On tap at ABC brewpub. Light slightly murky pour with plenty of frothy white foam that clings to the glass. Nose is a good dose of floral notes hops, and slight citrus. Taste follows the nose with very little by way of a malt backbone. Crisp and refreshing. At 5% abv this by far one of the best sessionable beers around. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pint on tap at ABC. Aroma is some citrus and just a bit of floral aromatics. Taste is some citrus and just a bit of bitter bite. Tons of flavor for a beer that is is low ABV. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Growler. Pours a sexy orange with creamy white head that sticks to the glass. Subtle aroma of pine. Flavors of grapefruit and bubble gum. Super hoppy, like an IPA, but lighter in body. Finish is bitter, but I’m not. There?s a birthday party in my mouth.

Growler shared by Sean. Thanks! Pours a rich glowing golden bright vibrant hue. A healthy haze, but not dark or murky. Frothy decent sized whitish head dies to thicker film, laces ok. Aromas are a rich vibrant melange of hops, with some citrus, bubblegum, tropical fruits. Mellow grapefruit and lemon, more orange and tropical elements, grass and touches of fruit. Some mellow pale malts, more fruit, vibrant flavor hops. Initial is lighter, a bit towards medium, but still light. A vibrant citrusy and tropical hopping offers lots of fruity flavors, touches of pineapple, passionfruit, and dry grass and florals. Lemon, mellow sweetness offers touches of bread, pale malts, more fruit. Middle is mellow swet and bitter, a good dryness mixes with a healthy fruit melange from the hops. Rich, vibrant, flavorful hops. Not overly bitter, very drinkable, a touch of bubblegum and a faint waft of pine keeps it honest. Really complex and enjoyable hopping with a sessionable malt body. Pleasant and tasty.

A: Crystal clear golden orange body. Massive white head. Excellent retention and substantial lacing. S: Tropical aromas dominate. Grapefruit, orange, mango, maybe some tangerine in there as well. Underlying notes of freshly cut grass. T: Profound grapefruit, light bready malts, floral hops, orange, mango. M: Light to medium bodied. Assertive carbonation, moderate bitterness, nice crisp bite in the finish. Epitome of "sessionable." O: This is right there with Zombie Dust as far as pale ales go. I keep forgetting how low of an ABV this is and I’d think it was a massive IPA based upon the hops if I didn’t know better.

Gravity cask at Toronado SD. Slightly hazy orange gold with some white bubbles. Smells like candy hops, good amount of green herbal dry hopping, very light fruity yeast. Flavor follows with orange citrus candy hops, with just enough sweetness--not caramelly. Finishes dry with earthy bitterness peaking at a 5. Low cask carbonation with a medium body. Very tasty.

Orange and basil aroma with a medium-bitter flavor and a nice crisp, hoppy finish. Solid.
