COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A West Coast Double IPA So mega-hopped it will take you to hop heaven. We’ve used hops in the boil, more hops in the giant hopback, and added to that, an incredible amount of dry-hopping for that cutting-edge “hop bite.” Once you’ve tasted this unique beer, all others pale in comparison. 1.072 OG Classified IBU 8%ABV

If you’re content with grabbing a six-pack of mega-brew from your local convenience store, quit reading this now. If, however, you’ve somehow become addicted to the flowers of the Humulus lupulus, you may have finally met your match. Alpine Beer Company has raised the bar for hop aroma, nose, mouthfeel and aftertaste. Opening a bottle of Pure Hoppiness is like spraying an aromatherapy can in the area -- except instead of lavender and jasmine, the air becomes filled with a citrusy-floral aroma which invites you to investigate and discover the pot of gold at the end of the brown glass bottle.

Draft pour. Amazing floral aroma with a smooth Hoppiness and resin bite. A well crafted DIPA.

Bottle via trade. Cheers to Rich! The pour’s slightly hazy amber with an creamy eggshell white head. The nose has mild notes of caramel. Some lemon sherbet. A bit of candied orange peel. Some mango meat. Quite sweet, some ribbon candy. The taste is similar. Definitely on the sweeter end of the spectrum. Dry pinecone and grass on the finish. Slightly chalky. Medium body, soft carbonation. Overall, quite good. Not super fresh tasting, but still very good.

A: Brilliantly clear pale copper color with a sturdy big foamy head. S: Huge pine notes upfront, love me some pine. Some other citrus and caramel but faint, pine is in the driver seat with this one. T: Love it, like eating a pine cone, leave piney beers. Mostly get pine again with some caramel notes. Could easily always drink this. M: Really easy to drink, and nicely carbonation. Not really sweet, which is good. Could drink this all day. O: So far my favorite Alpine beer out of the three I have had.

Received in a trade. Very piney and dry, quite resin-y. Easy drinker, but I was hoping for a slightly more rounded overall experience.

A double ipa for a fortnight and a day #5...had high expectations about this beer, its reputation certainly preceded it because it seemed to appeal to most beer drinkers. This is a beautiful beer, it has good color and looks quite appealing, however I thought that the mismatch of its grapefruit aroma and it’s highly tart smell and it’s low citrus draw made it oddly unstable on the palate. The extreme hop flavor was overpowering and only on the back end did I get any of what I was expecting. The taste is, as an Imperial IPA should be, a kick in the face of flavor, but it left me confused. There are other Imperial IPAs that are true to their aromatic profile and I think that this beer seems to be an ultra-hopped beer in disguise. A good beer, but not something that I would tout as an example of a perfect beer.

Bottle share at Hampton Inn pre-DLD party. Pour is golden yellow with a small off-white head. Aroma is of citrus and floral hops - caramel, tangerine, and grapefruit. Flavor and body are both fairly light with notes of resin, mango, and grass.

Pours a golden amber, great aromas of pine, and many tropical fruits, the beer feels light for an 8% so I could see one throw back many of these in one sitting. Great beer! Lives up to the rating.

Golden pour with a receding white head and nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is pine sap, mild onion, and citrus zest. Taste is soft citrus, onion from the hops, and just a hint of pinecone. Nice mouthfeel and finish. Not astringent like some ipa’s. Very good and easy drinking.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2014 Bottle: thanks, Jeff! Amber-orange body with much higher clarity than most Alpine IPA’s; fading, off-white head that settles slowly to a chunky, foamy collar. Aroma is full of fresh hops, wet grapefruits with light pungency, grass, mild onion notes, a hint of tropical fruit, & a little bit of malt sugar in the back-end. Taste is full of dripping wet hops, more tropical on the palate than the nose. Notes of light passionfruit, mango, & pineapple. Grass, weedy pungency, mild hop oil, & a touch of sweet bread leading to a lightly mouth coating finish. Not in the class of Duet or Nelson, but another damn fine IPA from Alpine nonetheless.
