3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Type: 32-oz. draft crowler
Glass: Figueroa Mountain shaker pint glass
From: Alpine Beer Company Tasting Room in Alpine, Calif.
Price: $7.50 (I think)
Purchased: June 3, 2016
Consumed: June 3, 2016
Misc.: Reviewed as an American Pale Wheat Ale
Had a taster of this first and liked it enough to get a crowler, but not enough to get a growler. Thought Rachel might like it as well. Beer Advocate and RateBeer say it is a pale ale, but I think it might be more of a pale wheat ale. Will start out reviewing it as such, but may change my mind midway through.
Poured a yellow, deep gold, clear color (est. 6-to-7.5 lovibonds) with 2-to-3 fingers of off-white, frothy head. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass as the head dissipated on the top. Poor, wet lacing. Average retention. (Sight - 3.25)
Smelled a nice mix of dry hops, I think getting Citra, floral and some spiciness, thinking either Amarillo or Simcoe. Also some grassy, vegetable (broccoli or green beans) herbal notes, but not in a bad way. (Smell - 3.50)
Taste was better than the smell. Got Citra, New Zealand hops, hints of Galaxy, spicy hops (thinking Amarillo more than Simcoe now), grassy, herbal hops, hay and white bread. (Taste - 4.00)
Light body. Thin texture. Lively carbonation. Abrupt, spicy finish. (Feel - 3.75)
This was pretty good for the style. Not sure I’ want a lot of this, but would have it again. Great for this heat wave we are having in Alpine. (Overall - 3.75)

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Toronado. I passed this up at O’Brien’s and Alpine so I made sure I ticked it before I left San Diego. Nice yellow-orange, white head, huge lace. Smells quite hoppy but all fruits. The flavor is also very fruity hops, not much bitterness if at all and a strange malt background that I could not lay a finger on. Went down very quickly and while it is very hoppy it does not measure up to Alpine’s IPA’s. Solid beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at ABC 09.09.2011 with Andy, James and Dallas for Dallas’ bachelor weekend. Dark, glossy sort of amber pour with a pillowey, whipped cream-like white head that lingers around. Hoppy, icy aroma and a crisp, clean hoppiness with minimal aftertaste. Smooth beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at Toronado. Pours a nice amber. Big citrus fruits in the nose. Taste is juicy while maintaining a nice bitterness. Finishes nice and clean. Would be an awesome session beer.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Draftat toronado with dallas and Andrew. Pours a hazy amber body with insane white lacing. Aroma is incredible blend of citrus fruits - apricot, peach, and grapefruit. Mouthfeel is perfect for an American pale ale with same fruity notes plus pine. Awesome.

Big thanks to mdfb79 for sharing this growler. Served in an Alpine pint glass on an Alpine coaster while wearing an Alpine t-shirt. That’s right, Paul. Aside from demolishing Paul, the beer was also quite pleasant to drink.
Pours a nice apricot color with a two-finger white head and good lacing and retention.
Nose carries a light dosing of New Zealand hops. Citrus rind and light tropical notes, plus just a touch of pine. Nothing too strong -- they could have gone with more here. The flavor adds a bit more character and isn’t quite as tame, with nice fruity notes throughout.
Light body with crisp carbonation and a light bitterness. Nothing too intense, but a great summer brew.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: SEP 1, 2011 Growler pour. Translucent brass color with a monster off-white head that has crazy lacing and great retention. The aroma is dominated by citrus, mostly oranges but also some grapefruit and lemons, with a bit of sweet lime on the back end. The taste, like the aroma, is more good citrus with oranges and grapefruits set in a caramel malt base. The palate is light and crisp with soft carbonation. Finishes short and clean. Overall: Very nice, a good example of how a beer can taste and smell hoppy without being particularly biter. I just wish that the finish had been longer and more satisfying.

Thanks to largadeer. Growler. Very nice. It’s light and dry with lots of hops. I love these beers that are basically scaled down West Coast-style IPAs. Pours pale gold with a white head. Nose has plenty of hops and leans toward the citric and tropical flavors. Light on the palate with just a touch of pale malt flavor. Very pleasant mild bitter hop bite in the finish. A good beer for an afternoon of drinking.
