Since “Willy” is so versatile and can be flavored with fruits and essences, we add a touch of vanilla extract to compliment the sweet nuttiness. Also good mixed with Captain Stout, a blend we call “The Captain and Vanil.”

Tap at Alpine. Pours a low haze straw. Soapy white foam. Vanilla and orange creamsickle nose. Taste is vanilla bean ice cream, orange creamsickle, lactic dairy. Lactic and oily palate. Very good. Major improvement on the normal Willy.

distinct vanilla aroma. Easy to drink, and easy on the palette. Nice vanilla character without being overbearing.

Tap at brewpub. Hazy straw with one finger creamy white head, down to a film before long. Smells like crisp wheat and light sweet vanilla. Simple and pretty satisfying. Flavor still has the vanilla, still the crisp wheat. Well-attenuated, otherwise the sweet and vanilla could be too much. As it is, it’s great. Dry finish, bitterness negligible with lingering wheat. Light to moderate carbonation with a light body. Easy drinker for sure, but I think its great. Seems almost funny I’ve grabbed a few growlers of this in the past instead of their other hoppier well-known offerings.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours a pale golden yellow color with a one finger white foam head that slowly fades into a thin ring. Spotty lacing left behind. Slightly spicy aroma with lots of vanilla complimenting the bready yeast notes. Subtle citrus presence compliments the prominent vanilla. Medium bodied but fuller than expected with bready yeast, and lots of vanilla.  The vanilla flavor dominates providing a lot of sweetness that compliments the bread notes but takes away from the citrus and spice.  Some banana and lemon peel along with some subtle clove/pepper.  Could use a bit more balance.

On tap at the source. Pours with a very lightly hazed yellow body with a small white head. Aromas of vanilla, cream soda, some bready and grainy notes from the malt. Flavors are sort of grainy and slightly husky malt additions to a cream soda. Minimal bitterness, decently dry and thin with lively carbonation.

(on draught at Alpine). Pours a slightly hazy golden color with thin white head. Aroma has vanilla, wheat and some cracker. Taste is sweet vanilla, but its not overpowering. Thin bodied with an oily texture. Smooth and somewhat dry finish. Nice wheat beer with restraint on the vanilla.

On tap at Alpine. Cloudy yellow pour with a small white head. The beer reeks heavily of vanilla and cream soda as you lift it to your schnozz. The flavor is like Dr. Brown’s Cream Soda with vanilla and banana notes. Rather sweet and overdone. Medium-light body with average carbonation. Sorry, I know this is Alpine, but this is not good. The guy next to me warned me against it, but hey, tickers gotta tick, right chief?

A Sim rate (tap at Alpine Brewing): Amazing beer name! Aroma is what you would expect. Vanilla but with wheat & malt. Very sweet. Flavour’s bursting with vanilla and wheat again. Slightly artificial, more like vanilla flavouring than vanilla essence. But nice and easy-drinking.
