Bottle. Copper colour, malty and sweet aromas. Poor tan head, non persistent, and some lacing. Light body and average carbonation. Taste is sweet, malty, developing to a mild bitterness. Smooth. Easy to drink.

The colour is very dark near to black with a red glimmer. The first taste is toasty-sweet in the aftertaste that flavour becomes more.

July 2010: Brown 500ml bottle poured into a Veltins Pilsner glass and a Forbidden Fruit chalice. The beer looked good in both glasses each showing off its good deep dark brown colour and lovely cream coloured head. The aroma and taste was of roasted/toasted malts, almost burnt in the taste, with dark chocolate and rich coffee flavours trying to get past the burnt hints. Fairly full in body and flavour, tastey, I am begining to warm towards this style more and more.

Bottled 50cl. Dark appearance with ruby reflects. Tall head. Slight butter in the nose. Beech wood and caramel are most present throughout. Nice lacework. Medium bodied. Quite smoky. Overall impression: A smoky dunkel which is pleasant to my tastes.

Bottle. Dark with some maltiness.Straight forward verging on bland. Like the style and this is a reasonable if not very exciting example.

Bottled (thanks Timo A!). Deep amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is toasted notes, roasted notes, and mild toffeeish notes. Flavour is the same as well as some slight with mild smoked wood as well.

Bottle from The Offie, Leicester; my first self-pouring German. Bottle-conditioned? Certainly encrusted with an intriguing layer of wax. Pours tall mahogany with a massive cream head. Maybe I shouldn’t have stuck it in a weizen. Aroma of shrubs, black breads, a cup of cocoa sprinkled with rust. Solid chocolatey taste with schwarz-like, heavily toasted, rusted iron leanings. Burnt cardboard, cigar-like afters. Lingers like a mild. Decent dunkel with some discreet roasted and herbal hop presence.

Bottle shared with our Mes. Brown with a small off white head. Aroma is malty and earthy and hints of an old pair of trainers gathering dust. Brief metallic flavour but washed away with more malts and some herby linament type stuff.
