Tap at the brewpub. It’s slightly hazy red mahogany with a huge, creamy and long lasting head. The aroma has notes of licorice, dark syrup, caramel and roasted malt. The flavor has a moderate sweetness and notes of licorice, caramel, roasted malt, syrup, and the finish is rather dry and refreshing.

1 l bottle from Brauhaus, Gießen... Nice dark clody color, good head.. Nice smookey malt and coffee aroma.. Mild sweet Dunkles taste... Average ending...

On tap at Gasthausbrauerei Alt-Giessen in Gießen. - Yeasty and a bit fruity. Some roasted malt. Finish is just a little bit bitter, with some rather unpleasant hop notes. - Still drinkable, but there are far better Dunkel beers around.

Clean brown with a generous creamy head. Cara malts in aroma with some toffee and cocoa.
More caramel in mouth, some cocoa and liquor.

Dark brown colored beer with a beige head. Malty sweet caramel nose. Malty sweet flavors too. Also caramel, chocolate and coffee noticeable. Sweetish ending with notes of hoppy bitterness.

Malziger, süß röstiger Beginn. Etwas schokoladig, passend trocken, geringe Würzigkeit. Der Fokus ist eindeutig auf das Malz gerichtet, was angenehm erscheint. 10/9/10/10//10

From tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brwn, yet clear and wit a golden deep amber glare and a lacing off-white head. Aroma is roasted dark malty, light luqourice bote. Sweet, dark malty, roasted and liqourice flavoured. Bitter and roasted malty finish.

(draught at the brewpub) Slightly hazy, dark amber colour with a mid-sized off-white foamy head. Sweet and toasty (cara-)malty aroma with notes of bread crusts and traces of liquorice. Sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a smooth carbonation. Toasty malty and bready taste with notes of caramel and a tinge of liquorice; moderately sweet and slightly bitter malt-accented finish with caramel and a whiff of cacao. Nice one. 02.VIII.09
