Bottle@Home. Aroma of toffee and caramel malts with something else, more or less like the yellow stuff in an egg. Light brown color, beige head, good lace. Light sweet, toffee, caramel, light herbal. Medium to full body. Wouldn’t call this a Dunkel but nice. Thanks DerDoppelbock.

Malziger, etwas saurer Antrunk.

Sehr vollmundig.

330ml bottle! The best before date has expired for over 2 months. The beer in glass is dark reddish brown with a bright beginning pompous crown, but then disappears here soon. The smell is malty and indefinable, something I’ve never smelled, and it is difficult to describe this smell but I like it! The Dunkel starts very malty and roasty well, with a subtle aftertaste of sweet malts. The finish is strong malty spicy. To finish it’s even a trace of more sweet malts, but the roasted note determined by the end of this beer. Delicious thing!

[bottle] Toasty toffee raisin brown sugar and nuts aroma. Clear dark chestnut appearance with a nice, lacy cover. Sweet, nutty brown sugar flavour that kind of drops off to a dry bitterness, leaving you hanging, unfortunately. Light body, low carbonation, nutty finish.

Good, fluffy, collapsing cream-coloured head over slightly hazy orange-chestnut beer. Sweet, buttery; I suspect some diacetyl, as there’s a slightly sourish tang to the nose as well. Greenery. Sweet, (stale) cookies or old thick paper flavour. Gets rather neutral, a bit bready, to end on a somewhat unsure bitterish-metallic finish. Olive brine with the salt taken out. As MoritzF says, a bit undercarbonated; slight slickness, petering out; light to medium body. Very down-to-earth Dunkel. But nothing’s fundamentally wrong, neither. When Bad Arolsen was just Arolsen, the Dunkel didn’t exist - or was not available. But you gave me a welcome blast from the past of Lieutenant Joris, Sebastian!

(33cl bottle, received from pivnizub as a gift) Clear, dark reddish-amber colour with a very short off-white foam. Slightly sweet, slightly toasty and mouldy nose. Sweet and slightly sour flavour, light to medium body with a low carbonation. Toasted malty taste with a sourish fruity note, moderately dry, but weak and slightly bitter finish with traces of metallic hops. Poor.

Bottle: Dark amber coloured, medium-sized, stable fluffy head; sweet-malty, but also yeasty, unripe and sourish nose; sweetish flavour with a faint acidity; light sweet-bitter and sourish finish. An odd Dunkel, not really apleasure..............
