“Hella” is a NorCal thing, and when used, is a sure tip-off that you are from Northern California. A classic “West Coast” Double IPA; clean malt flavor, hop flavor forward, without all the bitterness. Hella hops are used throughout the process to bring you intense floral, citrus, and tropical notes. Smooth and clean, not bitter!

Sampled on tap at ale arsenal. Thin head and light orange. Smooth drinking with a bit of after taste. Really nice hop palate though. Smooth and refreshing.

Sample at The Bistro DIPA-Festival, February 8. (my first one from this brewery) Hazy golden/orange with a white head. Fresh and with a pleasant hoppiness. Pineapple, mango, citrus and some biscuits. Bitter but not extremely bitter.

Tap @ Doolittle: Clear gold color with not much of a head. Sweet eggy aroma with a little rubber in there as well. Floral hop flavor with a dry sweetness about it. Blunt aftertaste that lingers. Solid 2IPA.

On tap at .burger in Capitola, pours a hazy vibrant golden orange with medium white head. Aroma brings out loads of piney hops, like a true Cali IIPA, with just enough biscuity malt to back. Flavour brings out very creamy piney hops, some tropical fruity notes - I’m reminded of peach creamsicle - and some malt to back that doesn’t really impart much flavour. Extremely creamy, piney and flavourful - everything is well-balanced. Excellent IIPA.

On tap at Harry’s Hofbrau. Robust orange and citrus aroma. Pours a slightly hazy golden-orange with minimal white head of large bubbles. Nice lacing. Flavor is overt citrus, orange and fresh cut grass. Moderate bitterness makes it an easy drinking DIPA. Fresh squeezes juice in the finish.

Went to the new local brewery in Livermore. I do have to say most of there selections are very tasty. This double IPA was fantastically smooth and less bitter compared to there shelter IPA. The smell was nice and fruity. Top layer tasted nice. These guys are definitely headed I the right direction. When I was in there I saw the owner trying what looked to be a new beer and It looked like a Hef so this should be exciting.

UPDATED: JUN 3, 2013 Pours a golden color. The smell has some citrus and pine notes. Taste is dominated by a strong pine bitterness with some wood and citrus aftertaste.

All I can say is I am so glad Altamont Beer Works opened in my hometown. I went there for the first time Easter Sunday. Yes that’s right they were open on Easter. I tasted Hella Hoppy for the first time and I became an instant fan. I enjoy a good hoppy beer with no bitterness and this fits the bill. Thanks Altamont Beeer Works!!
