Sunday: Students returning...I go to the communal house on campus where some of my former students stay. I was intending to cause trouble. I was in a sharing mood, and I had only one. And I had no notepad. And it was smoky. And I don’’t know alts very well at all. At least I brought a good glass! This was malty and delicious and had some hop tinges that kept it mighty interesting. I didn’t sense high alcohol as I do in some rich malty brews, so I was really in heaven.

My bottle looks a lot different than the picture, but this is the name of the beer. Cool little bottle with a handle, unique looking. Pours a burgundy beiege color, with a light amount of fruit and a hint of spice in the nose. The flavor is not overly rich but quite malty, with a somewhat chewy caramel and toffee. Light, but not underbodied, and very drinkable.

Quite a stunning flip top bottle honestly and served in my NB worthy glass: A deep russet hue with a fading frothy off-white head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of caramel and nutty malts, some dark bread, a hint of dry apple and anise. The taste pretty much follows suit with sweet bready malt, a hint of fruity twang and some light-handed rye-like spice upon the finish. The mouth feel is soft and smooth, refreshing actually. A good bier and above average for the genre.

Off notes 1/2007. Pours a near opaque ruby brown with a tan head. Nose is brown sugar with a bit of licorice and malt on there too. Flavor has some good depth to it, but is a tad bit watery on the end I think. Feel is a bit thin and carbonation is low. Overall it is a pretty drinkable brew. Not the greatest marzen ever, but pretty nice. Worth trying. And it comes in such a nice bottle too. :-)

Bottle with the name Jubel from Keg Liqour. Poured dark brown with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with fair lacing. Medium malty aroma. Medium body. Medium dark bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of average duration.
