Courtesy of fishingnet. Pours dark brown with nice tan head. The aroma is mild with a variety of sweet dark malts mixed with plums and dates. The taste is roasty malts, faint chocolate malts mixing with the odd dark fruity esters. There’s also a mild tartness and spiciness to boot.

Poured dark brown, with thin head, moderately heavy carbonation. Aroma of sweet malts, prunes. Depth of malts hides the alcohol well, rounded profile, prunes, brandy, some burnt toast. A dry resiny/astringent finish.

(500 ml bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/massachusetts/w target=blank>Julio’s Liquors) Pours dark rubyish brown with about 1/2" of tan head that recedes to a thin covering. Aroma is what you might call brown sugar, chocolate and molasses (those are best descriptors I could come up with because aroma notes aren’t exactly like any of those). Mouthfeel is medium-full, lightly prickly, fairly smooth. Tastes mostly dark and chocolatey with maybe some traces of port and molasses. Flavor is quite muted for style and with very little complexity but OK tasting. Not as chocolatey as TH Liberator but slightly similar. Has a bit of a warming alcohol effect that snuck up on me. Won’t make the doppel hall of fame but not too bad anyway.

(swing top bottle) Deep brown with hints of ruby. Generous light tan head. Aroma is sweet malt. Flavor is sweet malt and dark fruits.

500 ml bottle on clearance from BevMo. Very dark, even for a doppelbock. Aromas were malty and dark fruit. Prune and some caramel. Touches of cherry. Flavors were similar with a bit too much alcohol. Some metallic in the finish, and some bitterness that should have been sweeter. Just OK

50cl swingtop bottle - pours a dark red/brown, with good clarity, and a large, fizzy head that disappears completely, leaving a beer that looks like a glass of back cherry soda - bizarre aroma that takes some getting used to, but becomes quite nice - aroma of melon, cherries, flowers, wintery spices, rum-soaked raisins - the flavor is quite similar, with sweet chocolate covered cherries most prevalent - the rum/raisin character is far in the back - some bittering spices try to keep the sweetness from getting out of control, and do a decent job of it - actually, it completely obliterates it after a while, leaving a semi-dry, spiciness, and strong alcohol warmth where the sweet, fruity character used to be - a kind of copper/metallic character develops in the finish, but is very faint - starts strong and then continues to go downhill to the very end.

I’m not a doppelbock fan, they’re too sweet. But, this one is a pretty solid db. It smells great and has a pleasant raisiny malt taste with little bitterness.

Fantastic aroma. It is full of dark fruit, caramel, and brown sugar. Flavor has some harshness. Fruits such as raisins and plum are present as well as sugar and alcohol. It is completely devoid of carbonation and feels oily and sugary in the mouth. The aroma was super but flavor could be more exciting. A nice beer, though.

Swing-top Bottle: Pours deep amber/brown with an initially thick tan head that fades. Sweet malt aroma with mainly indications of brown sugar and some sweet lager fruitiness. A bit metallic as well. The mouth feel is slick and the flavor is sweet. Has some raisiny notes, and the bitterness, however, is very metallic and doesn’t balance the initial sweetness harmoniously. Eh...
