3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 bhensonb (9004) - Woodland, California, USA - NOV 17, 2007
Bottle. Floral hop aroma backed by some caramel. Dark mahogany color with a vigorous beige head. Thinnish body with near creamy carbonation. The flavor is caramel/toffee with floral notes and enough bitter to almost balance. There seems to be nutty spice with a light underlying sour note. For a lager this is really over the top on flavor and pizazz. The finish is not quite dry, but the floral bitter is right on. I say this is way underrated. Really tasty.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Maria (9572) - Thisted, DENMARK - JUN 10, 2007
This beautiful reddish brown dunkel, has a fairly OK head. The aroma is malty and the mouth feeling is smooth. The flavour is sweet and malty with notes of candy sugar, fruit, honey and fermented apple. An unexpected bitterness turns up in the finish, and gives a nice citrussy counterweight to the sweet impression. This beer should be tasted when cold.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 NYHarvey (2153) - New York, New York, USA - JUN 4, 2007
UPDATED: DEC 28, 2007 Courtesy of Papsoe. Thanks, Henrik. The aroma is quite light, but features dry malt, grassy hops, a hint of cola and some very faint chocoff. The body is a rich wood colored brown, but fully transparent, giving it a polished hardwood look. The head is clingy, off-white, two fingers thick and quite lasting. Quite fruity on the first sip with hints of spiced applesauce, fresh green apples and lightly toasted dry malts. Very subtle and delicate, but strong in it’s lingering quality with stays with you long after you have swallowed. I get some light caramel notes as well along with a hint of wheat cereal and warm toasted grains. The head on successive pours is quite pretty with a frothed up capuccino appearance. I find this beer to be drastically better than it is rated. Maybe I got the golden ticket bottle, but this is an amazingly well done dunkel I’m drinking right now.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Anglofile (138) - Piti, GUAM - MAR 18, 2007
Bottle. Amber color with a nice head. Malty mouthfeel with some roastiness and spices. Fruity smell. Reminded me somewhat of a Sam Adams. That obviously doesn’t help much because there are lots of Sam Adams brews. Eh, I was drunk at the time.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 JoeinEscazú (1324) - San Jose, COSTA RICA - DEC 28, 2006
Bottle from a friend’s cellar. Deep golden-brown, somewhat thin head. Rye in the nose, and I think some chocolate. Chocolate and coffee are faint in flavor, which is dominated by rye, slightly dry with healthy bitterness to balance out mild sweetness. Dark wheaty, malty finish. Like many dark German beers, I want more oomph from this one, but still a nice beer.
1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 raymondwave (931) - FINLAND - DEC 15, 2006
Slightly hoppy, bitter. Very very watery and thin mouth feel like said earlier, doesn’t really taste much. So far I’m quite disappointed with german winter beers, since they seem to be more light than regular beers.
