Bottle: Poured a dark chocolate brown with a off white head. Aroma is dark fruit with a edge that I can’t pick up. Taste is a sweet maltiness, the finish is sticky and wet.

There are many advantages to strong beer. For instance, I left this in my car overnight accidentally in the worst blizzard in ten years and it did not freeze. Try that w/ a Miller Lite! This is sort of a thick, barelywine-like Belgian style ale. It is a nice enough reddish brown color w/ a small head. It greets the nose w/ sticky malts and resinous, spicy hops. Flavor is a bit sweet w/ some sort of piney hops. It’s slightly over-carbonated so the texture comes off as a bit thin. An odd metallic note comes out in the finish. This is not one of Belgium’s finer offerings.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pretty good obscure brew. Poured with a huge foamy frothy, fine, light tan head that lasts and lots of lace. Color is a cloudy mahoganey. Aroma is lots of dark ripe fruits: raisins, figs, dates, prunes, malt, yeast, Flavors very similar. Body is good and so is carbonation. Finish is like flavor with a little more bitterness coming out. Good beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Dark brown, average and mostly diminishing light brown head. Moderate malty and sweetish aroma with roasted malt and some coffee, faint sourness. Body is medium, malty with some sweetness, roasted malt and some coffee with notes of vanilla. Finish is average, malty and dryish, some sourness with vanilla and coffee. Interesting and quite pleasant combination of vanilla and light sourness.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
poured from a 330 cl bottle a very murky mahogany color with quite a bit of sediment floating around the glass. Has a very small tan head that dissapears quickly.Aroma of fruits, malt, cocoa, and coffee. Taste is somewhat complex of apple, malt, other fruits and coffee. A wonderful taste is left lingering on the palate that rises right up the nose. Good carbonation.Despite the rating I feel this is a very good beer. A little bit of sourness detected but offsets the sweetness. A very good Belgium beer that i would recomend.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Spicy aroma. Hints of bready malts. malt aroma I always associate with Belgian beers. Pours mahogany brown with large fluffy head. Spicy flavor hits you right away. Then the aftertaste becomes a malty sweet affair that is very nice. A good beer that does not hide what it is, but is lacking some complexity that would make it even better.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from the proefzolder. Pours almost black, trying to watch some fotons get through i’d think it has a marroon shine. Head is foamy, quickly collapsing and brownish, but leaves a silky topping. Nose hasn’t a lot going on, but I get some vinous earthy notes. First sip hits your mouth like a glass of vinegar when expecting sprite. Very vinous, as in unexpected, some lactic acid, some caskwood tannines, some fondant chocolate taking a peek. And a roasted maltiness throughout the swallow. Flavor is predominantly sour, but with bitterness of the roasted malts and some chocolate sweetness. This could partake in an oud bruin competition. Palate I find a bit oversaturated but it has at least a minimum of silkyness. An interesting and alternative brew...

3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Slightly chilled 33cl bottle into a tumbler. It had a lot of carbonation, pours as lively as a Duvel but settles down quickly. A nice two finger beige head sitting on top of an almost black body. The head calms down to a thin head with a nice smattering of dark yeasties on top. After it sits for a little bit the unfiltered nature is apparent as the sediment settles to the bottom.
Aroma is interesting... sour cherry, woody, and breadlike. Nothing is overwhelming but it is really interesting. Taste has a nice cherry sour to it from the start to the finish. Sometimes there is a little sweetness or smokiness in the middle. The malt is noticeable for a brief moment as well. The finish is a smoky bitterness that lingers for a little while.
This is surprisingly light bodied for 9% ABV and a strong belgium ale. The mouthfeel is lively, not quite fizzing and creamy. Most of the cream comes from the strong layer of foam on top. Overall, I’ll probably pick this up again if I see it anywhere.
