3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Slightly chilled 33cl bottle into a tumbler. It had a lot of carbonation, pours as lively as a Duvel but settles down quickly. A nice two finger beige head sitting on top of an almost black body. The head calms down to a thin head with a nice smattering of dark yeasties on top. After it sits for a little bit the unfiltered nature is apparent as the sediment settles to the bottom.
Aroma is interesting... sour cherry, woody, and breadlike. Nothing is overwhelming but it is really interesting. Taste has a nice cherry sour to it from the start to the finish. Sometimes there is a little sweetness or smokiness in the middle. The malt is noticeable for a brief moment as well. The finish is a smoky bitterness that lingers for a little while.
This is surprisingly light bodied for 9% ABV and a strong belgium ale. The mouthfeel is lively, not quite fizzing and creamy. Most of the cream comes from the strong layer of foam on top. Overall, Iíll probably pick this up again if I see it anywhere.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: APR 19, 2011 33cl bottle
Pours a cloudy dark brown to red color with a huge beige rocky head.
The nose is hugely complex with a slight sourness, fruits, oaky tanines, wine and porto touches, sweet suger and malts. The taste is equally complex with in the beginning a gentle sourness at your cheeks with wine touches, lots of oak and proceeds to a gentle sour fruity aftertaste with some roasted malts and coffee. Unfortunately does the sourness hides a lot of the malty flavors.
A very complex and special brew!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours deep chestnut with thick, bubbly white head. Nose has berry-fruit aromas - cherries, cranberries- and nuttiness and just a hint of yeasty funk. Flavor is lightly bittersweet, light notes of oakiness, mild sour ale notes on the finish with very light bitterness lingering. Very bubbly mouthfeel.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
I affectionately call this one "Earwig Porter". Pours turbid dark brown with 2-finger uniform off-white head. Nose is roasty caramel malt, spice, fig, cherry, floral perfumy, and pomegranate. Tastes malty, sweet, with cinnamon, cherry, and red wine grapes. Very carbonated, this one reminds me of a red wine and champagne hybrid, with added malt and spices.

3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Interesting beer but not quite my cup of tea. This beer pours a rather dark ruby/brown, transparent though it looks nearly black in the shadows. Big, creamy beige head. Fruity aroma - apricots, plums, berries, cherries. Some caramel and a touch of chocolate. A fair bit of oak sourness, as well. The flavor is surprisingly sour. Itís not a real big pucker, compared to a true sour, but itís a surprising, almost difficult flavor to interact with the dark malt and belgian yeast notes. Otherwise, thereís a lot of Belgian malt flavor and a relatively dry finish despite a fair bit of sweetness upfront. Unfortunately, the carbonation almost kills it for me. I think this beer suffers from serious over-carbonation. Itís chock full of tiny prickly bubbles, all bursting forth as I try to swallow. I think that I would enjoy this beer a lot more with less aggressive carbonation.
