Slightly chilled 33cl bottle into a tumbler. It had a lot of carbonation, pours as lively as a Duvel but settles down quickly. A nice two finger beige head sitting on top of an almost black body. The head calms down to a thin head with a nice smattering of dark yeasties on top. After it sits for a little bit the unfiltered nature is apparent as the sediment settles to the bottom. Aroma is interesting... sour cherry, woody, and breadlike. Nothing is overwhelming but it is really interesting. Taste has a nice cherry sour to it from the start to the finish. Sometimes there is a little sweetness or smokiness in the middle. The malt is noticeable for a brief moment as well. The finish is a smoky bitterness that lingers for a little while. This is surprisingly light bodied for 9% ABV and a strong belgium ale. The mouthfeel is lively, not quite fizzing and creamy. Most of the cream comes from the strong layer of foam on top. Overall, I’ll probably pick this up again if I see it anywhere.

11.2oz bottle in a teku. Pours dark brown with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of dark and chocolate and caramel malts, light oak, hints of funkiness, plus some dark fruits and light spices. Flavor the same with a nice blend of everything. Average to smooth texture. A pretty unique Belgian Dark ale that is definitely worth trying.

Nice Belgian dubbel beer. Has the roasted sweetness, but also some oak, dark fruits and a special funk.

Brune rougeâtre, effervescence moyenne-faible, col beige moyen. Malts toastés, caramel, légèrement amère, petit fruité, les foudres se goûtent un peu.

Draught sample @BBF 02/2014, ZO. Listed as "dubbel" in festival booklet, which at 9% sounds odd but gives a better impression of this smooth and creamy beer than as Belgian Strong Ale. Upfront light milk chocolate malts meet cognac-style wood notes on a dryish palate. Slight smoke, woody acidity peeking around the corner. Easy drinker, smooth and creamy amped-up dubbel.

Bouteille 33cl, BB 02/2016.

Bottle @ home shared with Thompson. Dark brown color, nice dark red glow coming through, full sized off-white head. Smell and taste malts, some sweetness, lightly dry texture, some hints of wood but you’ll have to search for it. Alcohol detectable, though not really offensive. Decent.
