3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DougShoemaker (3149) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 9, 2006
Candied malt aroma, some caramel, golden amber, with a small tan head. Sweet fruit and malt flavour, some pear, alcohol is noticed, medium bodied, sweet, a mild tongue tingle. Very good. A new country, woo hoo! Thanks Radek.
2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 luckygirl (1221) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 3, 2006
Bottled—shared with Ernest, see the code in his rating. Beer is a clear medium copper color. Head is frothy, small, off-white, and mostly and rapidly diminishing.<!-- P -->The aroma is malty with moderate notes of caramel, cookie and toasted grain; Hoppy with light notes of herb and honeysuckle; Yeasty with a moderate dank note; Miscellaneous notes of moderate-to-heavy sherry-teetering-on-cardboard, light peach/tropical fruit and sweet winter spices.<!-- P -->The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, trace bitter with a long, lightly sweet, moderately acidic finish. Cardboard/sherry comes through in the retronasal again.<!-- P -->The body is light, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively. Not for me, thanks.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Ernest (5182) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 3, 2006
Bottle.
Head is initially small, fizzy, white, mostly diminishing.
Body is dark yellow to light amber.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (grain/cereal), with notes of canned peaches, cardboard, and alcohol.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, unclean.
Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation.
Bottle is probably not that fresh...stamp on the back looked like 03/07, but it’s hard to say if the 07 was for 2007. Unpleasant tinny, syrupy, and cereal-like nose.

Less than impressed. Flavor was to light and had no finish to it. Aroma was a bit malty. Not much else to say.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 ross (1913) - weddington, North Carolina, USA - APR 8, 2006
Not real good. Pours out a light brown color not much aroma or flavor. Rather bland, certainly not the best dubbel I’ve had, but I was not certain what to expect with something Romania.

Bottle. From a Romanian coworker. He explained that it is not very strong, and I agree. This is not an in your face Abbey double, but a nice balanced beginner version. A little light in distinction.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 MacDaddyOJake (274) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JAN 27, 2006
Nothing special here, and a little dissapointing for a belgian. I found that it was a little like drinking apple juice. Nothing terrible, but I won’t be getting this one again
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jimhilt (2166) - Bow, New Hampshire, USA - JAN 2, 2006
UPDATED: JAN 9, 2006 Pours a white one finger-head that quickly goes to a ring and leaves no lace. Crystal clear pale amber color. Strong carbonation and medium bodied. Nose has hints of caramel. Starts sweet but balanced, hops stay in background. My first bottle from Romania and it isn’t bad. 330ml bottle gift, available from Vintage Cellar Blacksburg, Va.
