Nice wine red color with a colorful head...oak and wildness.. great sour tones and some caramel sweetness... complex taste.. lacks body and finish longevity

660 ml bottle at home. Pours deep ruby red brown, nice yellow beige steady head. Rather than a strong ale, this is in the nose and the taste a sour/red-brown ale. The nose reveals refined aromas of bready malt, salted caramel, plums and raisins. Sweet sour body with fine wine taste and tannines from the bordeaux barrels. A very nice sour brown ale.

Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent, Belgium Fridah 7th February consumed at home Thursday 20th February 2014 Pours brown, bit murky and flat as a witches tit, not really a looker if truth be told. Wine and oak flow forth from the nose, soft with sweetened mild balsamic qualities. Soft in mouth, alcohol does show but in a good way, supping this listening to Sandy Denny on Marc Riley on Radio 6. Like this, its got a warm wet oakiness its a little sour, nice fruity finish, yes its quite nice. A7 A3 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

1/II/14 - 50cl bottle @ Brugs Bierfestival - BB: n/a (2014-149) Thanks to the Belgian ratebeer crew for sharing today’s beers!

Little cloudy red brown beer, aery beige big bubbled head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: bit smoky, sourish, earthy, some caramel, vinegar, tobacco. MF: soft to no carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sour, vinous, dried fruits, some caramel, smoky, bit of sugary sweetness. Aftertaste: little bitter, tannins, caramel, bit sugary, more sour flavours, pretty smoky touch as well.

Sample draft @ BAB’14.

Sample at Brugs Bierfestival 2014. Shared with Dylan. APPEARANCE: dark brown beer, small unstable off white head. NOSE: sweet, yeasty, somewhat boozy, alcohol. TASTE: quite fruity, some alcohol again. Quite decent.

Sampled draft @ Brugs Bier Festival 2014. Murky dark brown, only bubbles for a head. Sugary sweet nose, maple, Alvinne yeast, sticky sweet wine, dark fruits. Sugary, brown sugar sweet, boozy, maple, oaky, thick. Flat. Not bad but could have been way better I think. I rated the regular quite a bit higher.

Small cream head over deep reddish brown ale. Acids (lactic, hint at acetic), old wet wood. Sweet! Strange - acids arriving in the aftertaste. Finish has a wry flavour of woodtoner. Some fruity esters, all the same. Well-bodied, oily to viscous. Long-lasting ketonic aftertaste with more acids, and always wood. Special - for the die-hards!

50cl, as Balthazar Oak Aged (gerijpt op Tour Baladoz wijnvaten), new exclusive brew Anno 2014, from De Hopduvel Gent, very complex brew, spicy/vinous and slightly alcoholic/woody, heavy, yet balanced, cloudy, nearly no head, good Winter brew, yet expensive!
