diabel (1188), Aarschot, Belgium Mar 31, 2008 Bottle Clear to hazy brown/amber body. Off-white, small creamy head. Good lace. Aroma of cane sugar, liquorice, pear, apple, bit raspberry, flowers, yeast, malts, ... Although there’s a lot in the aroma, it’s not that complex. Ok balance. Heavily bitter, lightly sour initial flavour. Heavily bitter finish (bit powdery). All of the bitterness is hoppy bitterness. The bitterness in the finish is quite aggressive, like a canon that explodes its bitterness in the finish.

Pours deep brown with a nice, steady, creamy beige head. Aroma is powerful, lots of toffee maltiness, yeast and light oxidation. Very high carbonation, letting the beer down a little. Flavour is nicely sweet, with a fruity tartiness to it. Finish has chocolate, toffee and raisins. It gets a lot better as it settles in my glass.
