On tap at The Brick Store Pub, Decatur. Went down nicely on a chilly early March afternoon. Deep translucent amber pour with a potent, frothy head. Nose of moderate smoke and char with hints of citrus, caramel malts, and sharp yeasty easters. Mouthfeel a bit underdone, could be fuller. Some dark fruits in the taste, where the smoke comes on just a bit more than in the nose. Not an especially memorable beer but pleasant under the right circumstances.

Bottle - 330ml. Dark brown body with a decent beige foamy head. Malty/hoppy taste with plummy and brown sugar hints. Taste carries some woody notes. Ends with a good bitter/grainy finish. Not bad.

330ml. The usual Alvinne pour- get the funnel and goggles ready. High, garnet-coloured pour with a thick, subsiding beige head. Yeasty, slightly porcine, slightly lahti-like aroma with banana, juniper and berries and a beautiful, Schlenkerla punch of smoke emerging. Flavour neat Bamberg smoked bacon over a fizz of overripe berries. A pip of raspberry. Spritzy mouthfeel that might distract from the smokiness....but doesn’t. Some dank cellar and mildew through the thick, lovely wafts of smoke. Works for me.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 gEUS (232) - Linden, BELGIUM - JAN 26, 2012
33 cl bottle. Pours deep hazelnut brown with off-white head. Nose of lightly smoked ham, hint of dark cherries. Taste is one sided... pity. Smokey and sour, and a tiny bitter touch in the finish. That’s it.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 suprchunk (1059) - Heinsberg, GERMANY - JAN 26, 2012
Gusher. Dark, dark brown colored pour. Big, rocky, off-white head. Settles down fairly quickly and leaves a little bit of lacing behind. A big buttery caramel aroma. No smoke really. Bitter sourness. Slightly smoky in the mouth, but more like a bacon taste. It’s okay.

2010 Vintage 33 cl. bottle shared @ friend’s house: A: red brown with an off-white head S: sweet berries, smoke, sugar, T: smoke, leather, some sweetness, plenty of bacon, wild herbs B: touch, light sparkling // sample fresher bottle @ brewery: age has really helped this beer, it has gotten deeper with a stronger leather & bacon taste, evened out a bit the red berries & touch of herbs in the aftertaste which were more present in the fresher sample, carbonation has eased down quite a bit with age but still serious // nice simple, yummy, very drinkable beer

Bottle 33 cl from Willems - Grobbendonk (B). Dark brown with gushing beige foam. Immediate scents of smoked, bacon, roasted malt and acidity. The smoke increases to the taste , burned wood, roasted malt, juice of Calabria, fruity, a bit sourish, bitter burnt. Miss a few nuances.
