50 cl bottle from Vinmonopolet enjoyed at home. Pours murky dark brown with a one finger brown head that leaves some lacing. Aroma of dark fruits, figs, raisin etc. Taste is medium sweet, medium bitter, light sourness and some salty aftertaste. Full body and a bit oily texture. Some alcohol warmness butt 14% is hidden quite well. Nice one

Recht süßer Beginn, der gerade noch ausgewogen ist. Deutliche Fassnoten, wenig malzig, unsüffig. Hefiges Finish. 8/10/8/9//9

The head is medium, the body dark. It smells barrel aged. The taste is barrel-woody, alcoholic, a bit plum, creamy. Overall to strong. 9/10/9/8/-/9

Bottle (50cl). Lovely, dark mahogany colour, slightly hazy. Finger-thick light beige head that settles as a thick ring with some lacing. Rich, sweet aroma of dried fruits (fig, raisin), oak, malt, yeast, caramel, molasses. Full body, oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Sweet woody and malty taste, balanced by a mild acidity and some bitterness. Finishes relatively dry. Quite easily drinkable on its own, but also nice with desserts.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy dark brown color ale with medium size foamy head with average retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of sweet malt based with lots of residual sugar and some dry fruit s notes with some easily discernable woody notes and light vinous feel. Taste is also dominated by some woody notes with a big sweet malt base with toffee and dry fruits notes. The red wine notes are also easily discernable without being too tart. Body is full with limited filtration and good carbonation with not much alcohol being apparent. Complex but also a bit too sweet to appreciate a large quantity of that liquid.

Dense caramel ice cream and cookie dessert hits on the nostrils with just a whisper of alcohol, certainly less than I would have expected from a 14% brew, in the nose at least. A broad little fruit array is quickly ventured in, earth cherries, marmalade and peaches are all visited every other whiff. The rich and sweet type, halfway between liquid chocolate and port wine and yet with this alcohol level, you would have thought that a fair attenuation had been reached - perhaps, but there’s plenty of complex sugars remaining. While little head formation punctuates the pouring motion, in mouth, the carbonation is initially fairly active, though it slowly diminishes to leave a more liquorous texture after the beer has been sitting around for a few dozen minutes - which is almost inevitable if you drink a bottle by yourself. Raisiny, chocolatey, caramely, very desserty palate. Fair oak character with noticeable tannins, but not to the point where I feel the smooth, silky, currant-like Pomerol character is highlighted very much. That’s something rare enough in beer that I would have enjoyed it to take more room; it is tough for a sweet dark Belgian beer to make an overdose of balancing gracious tannins. An interesting recipe, but not one I’d like to revisit very often considering the price tag and rarity.

Draft @ Borefts. Aroma is dusty cellar, red fruits, wood and liquorice. Flavour is overly sweet with red fruits, vanilla, oak and caramel.

Sample at Borefts Beer Festival 2012. Pours a hazy and dark brown beer with no head. The aroma is malt, dried fruit and fruit. The flavor follows the nose with additional alcohol. The palate is sweetness and alcoholwarmth. Overall a good beer.

On tap at Borefts 2012, Bodegraven. Pours cloudy, red-brown with a faint, bubbly white head. Sugary malt nose with ripe fruits, toffee and bread. Very big sweet flavor, a touch syrupy, with jammy fruits, dates, plums, cake and toffee. Full bodied with soft, chewy carbonation. Lightly warming finish with tons of ripe, candied fruits, jam, figs, plums, cake. Very rich, but not overly cloying in the end. Great stuff.

Tasted at the 4th BBF @ de Molen. Dark brown pour. Aroma of dry fruits, sugary and licorice. Flavor is too sweet, nu carbonation, sticky, fruits and candy.
