Bottle purchased for off-sale at the Birch. Pours hazy ruby chestnut, medium fizzy brown head, dissipates fairly quickly, decent lacing. Aroma is malty, toffee, raisin, caramel, date, vinous, oaky. Flavor is full sweet, light bitter, malty and rich, cocoa, dark sugars, red wine. Full body, creamy. Solid.

Tap at Bruges Atelier. Aroma is booze, rich and fruity. Warming. Big and a little scary. Think this was the beer that pushed me over the edge judging by my notes.

Bottle shared at a tasting. Pours a clear red with a thin fizzy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of red wine, wood, toasted malt, coconut, toffee, booze, cherries. The taste is cherries, stone fruit, toffee, mild vegetal and mushroom notes. Medium bodied, prickly booze, low carbonation.

lol, this is a joke, basically undrinkable, it tastes fine, decent flavors, but intolerably sweet and thick. Its like drinking tasty maple syrup, how much do you really want?

29/11/2014 @WBF Clear amber colour. Aroma of sherry, toffee. Oily texture. Taste has some sherry notes too, prunes, dates, some candy. Interesting but I prefer Land van Mortagne

50cl bottle pours an oily, deep brown with some creamy, off white head. Nose has cherry, a little pomegranate vinaigrette, some dried cherry, a little cooked greens. Flavor has caramel, candy sugar, raisin, mild acid, a little smoke, slightly medicinal. Candy sweet finish.

Hazy amber-brown with thin dust-yellow-colored head, fine, dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma is caramel, slight tart (maybe a bit of lactic) and musty, metallic herbs. Body is medium, syrupy, but with a strong, burning, lingering, prickly carbonation that crests and falls like a nice long Poisson distribution. Flavor is vinous caramel and light butterscotch, booze. Kind of a boring, slightly cloying sweetness. Considerable neutral bitterness, but the heat from the alcohol overtakes this as the drink warms in the glass. Overall, an interesting quad. I was very excited that the aroma might indicate a sour or more attenuated/dry beverage; this was not the case. I think the barrel aging contributes much to the interesting character of the beer; however, I can’t help but wonder if a smaller beer would have been better, maybe with fresher hops (perhaps importing this has taken its toll) and less crystal malt.
