Shared bottle at local tasting. Pours dark as Coke with a small light tanned head. Aroma of malt, molasse and berries. Taste of sweet berries, malts and even some nice liquorice. Very good one, complex but good.

(Rating #4774)

Dense caramel ice cream and cookie dessert hits on the nostrils with just a whisper of alcohol, certainly less than I would have expected from a 14% brew, in the nose at least. A broad little fruit array is quickly ventured in, earth cherries, marmalade and peaches are all visited every other whiff. The rich and sweet type, halfway between liquid chocolate and port wine and yet with this alcohol level, you would have thought that a fair attenuation had been reached - perhaps, but there’s plenty of complex sugars remaining. While little head formation punctuates the pouring motion, in mouth, the carbonation is initially fairly active, though it slowly diminishes to leave a more liquorous texture after the beer has been sitting around for a few dozen minutes - which is almost inevitable if you drink a bottle by yourself. Raisiny, chocolatey, caramely, very desserty palate. Fair oak character with noticeable tannins, but not to the point where I feel the smooth, silky, currant-like Pomerol character is highlighted very much. That’s something rare enough in beer that I would have enjoyed it to take more room; it is tough for a sweet dark Belgian beer to make an overdose of balancing gracious tannins. An interesting recipe, but not one I’d like to revisit very often considering the price tag and rarity.

50cl bottle pours an oily, deep brown with some creamy, off white head. Nose has cherry, a little pomegranate vinaigrette, some dried cherry, a little cooked greens. Flavor has caramel, candy sugar, raisin, mild acid, a little smoke, slightly medicinal. Candy sweet finish.

@ ABT blind tasting. murky brown with a small light beige head, some retention. roasted caramel, oak - tad too present, smoke and fire, chocolate, some raisins, some phenols and plastic notes (!). soft carbonation, medium body - almost cloying. nice use of barrel, relatively complex.

Keg @ Borefts 2012. The pour’s completely still reddish brown. No head, not bubbles. The nose is spple, spiced mulled wine, some cocoa posder and red fruits. Te taste is sweet liquid cotton candy, some spiced fruits, more mulled wine and caramel. Hints of red grape and rich rotting wood (in a good way). Diverse, complex palate. Soft, very drinkable. Wow, what a beer. One of the best of the festival. Complex, rewarding character.

Bottle shared at CBC clerko. Big thanks to Paul. Aroma is funk, tart raspberry, nice oud brune aroma with light acid. Hazed borwn pour with a persistent thin off white head. Flavour is sweet candy sugar, berry ,cranberry. Sticky sugary palate. A little bit too sweet for me.

50cl, new exclusive brew Anno 2012, from the brewery, very complex brew, spicy/alcoholic and slightly woody/vinous, heavy, not balanced, cloudy, small head, good brew, yet expensive!, WOW!
