4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: SEP 1, 2012 Details: 50cl bottle, lot 573.
Tasting notes: Pours a black color with a dark red shine and a thick beige white head. Sweet complex aroma, malt, caramel, slight hint of alcohol, soft, creamy, slight vinious touch, dried fruit, interesting. Sweet big, fat flavor, malty, caramel, roasted nuts, gentle alcohol burn, subtle bitterness, long dry finish. Thick syrupy mouthfeel, very low carbonization.
Conclusion: A big, fat beer which is well matured and hides it high alcohol content quite well but lets you experience some of it, unfortunately the carbonization is a bit low but that isn’t unexpected from a high ABV barrel aged beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
hazy brown colour with slight ruby notes, minimal off-white head - more like lacing than a real head; aroma of intensive red wine and oak barrel notes, overripe black sour cherry and dried plum soaked in cognac, and some alcohol; taste of intensive dry red wine, tannins, dried plum and cherry soaked in alcohol, burnt sugar, syrupy sweetness, maybe some herbal notes, too, a bit exaggerated alcohol and some brett-like sourness; good quadrupel, but not among the best ones I’ve tried

Bottle. Teku. Deep brown/reddish with small, semi-densed, light brown head. Poor head retention and lacing. Aroma is very winey, slightly oaky with decent, noticeable malty notes - dark and burnt sugar, some caramel, raisins, woody. Taste is semi-sweet, which lasts till the end of degustation, ABV is very well hidden. Medium body, sticky texture, average carbonation, finish is pure, woody. In general drinkable, taste like old good wine, very interesting and not so packed with malts, nicely balanced.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Muddy brown color with just a bit of beige foam. Aroma has brown sugar, caramel, dried dark fruits and some oak. Taste starts with sweet malt, dark fruits, caramel, booze and finishes slightly bitter with some dark chocolate and slightly roasted malt. It’s quite good but a bit boozy for my taste.

Bottle. Lovely smoked port like flavour.Tastes like a classic wine rather than a beer. Smokey and malty-needs to be supped rather than drank. Superb.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
0.5l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. This one pours a, well I guess you can call it unclear but not directly cloudy looking near bronze colored dark body with a bubbly and sidesticking mild beige top. It has, to my surprise, a relative low nose. I have to struggle to get anything else than a sweet toffee pudding nose here. Some darker types of fruit also detected. Sweet kiwi. It doesn’t smell like a 14 percenter, but it smells nice. Mild but nice. Tastes quite decent also. Rounder than I thought. Lots of raisins, it’s sweet and sticky both in the taste and in the mouth. Soft and prickling on the carbonation. Red caramel and it’s scary lightdrinkable. Sweet but no alcohol either warming or sting. Melon in the finish. Quite nice. 04.08.2016

500ml bottle. Hazy, brownish colour. Nice, medium white head. Hints of red wine, earthiness, hints of berries, hints of oak, hints of caramel and dark fruits in the aroma. Hints of caramel, liqeury notes, hints of berry wine, bitter, woody notes in the middle. Some sweetness. Caramel and dark fruits. Toffee and and notes of wine in the end. Hints of red wine in the aftertaste. Quite interesting, quite well balanced, nice belgium strong ale. Enjoyable.
