4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 sebletitje (5415) - Enghien, BELGIUM - APR 28, 2013
Draft sample @ ZBF’13 shared with the RB Belgian crew. I guess batch 1 was brewed in the old Heule brewery. Since then, Glenn mentioned it is at least batch #3 or 4 of the Freddy.
Brune foncée, pas de col.
Arôme aigre dominant sur une pointe fruité noir-rouge de vin. Le tout me appelle plus la prune.
Palais est aigre, nettement plus fruitée que la Megablend. Note aigre de pruneaux d’Agen, raisin sec. Fini malté avec ce côté aigre presque de veille croute de fromage, lactique avec ce côté typique de levure Morpheus de Alvinne.

Sampled draft @ ZBF 2013. Batch 1 was apparently brewed @ the old brewery, batch 2 & apparently further batches were all made @ the new one. This is batch 3 or 4… but 2 & further are the same recipe. Very dark brown with a red hue, blackish, no head. Nose is sour tannins, wine, wood, chocolate & cacao powder, some mocha, light sourness balanced by a sweet base. Taste is sour tart cherries, red wine & red wine barrel, chocolate malts, mocha, cacao powder, tannins, hint vinegar, sour berries,… Fuller body, flat,… Nice.

Not sure if it is batch 1 or 2. 330 ml bottle. Flat pout with no head. Smell is malt and balsamic. Mouthfeel is flat, it is grapey, winey, sour, tannic, slight balsamic, sour., lemon. Its okay but seems off.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 NikkTwist (880) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 11, 2012
Draft at Farmers Cabinet. Billed as "Freddie Wild" but I think this is it. Dark pour. No head. Vinous dark beer with a definite sour touch. Dark malts. No particular hop flavors. Soured raisins. Plum wine. Lots of interesting lambic sour notes. Shiny black leather. Raspberry leaves. Earthy. Burnt wood. Raisins. Prunes. Figs. Duck. Cigars. Sweet sugar pinecones. Nice palate. Medium body. Unusual notes. Not for the casual drinker. Please try!
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 MadRobin (987) - Silver Spring, USA - MAY 10, 2012
On tap at Pizza Paradiso in Georgetown, Washington, DC.
Clear, deep mahogany arrived with no head and trivial lacing.
Aroma is sour and fruity and sweet.
Taste is sour with citrus and dark fruits and a touch of caramel as it warms.
Light body and negligible carbonation.
This beer seems to have gotten less complex with age. Where did the cherry, vanilla and wine flavors and aroma go?

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Glouglouburp (5545) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 28, 2011
In short: Another overly vinegary sour dark ale. Meh.
How: Bottle 330ml. Wedding gift from Alvinne’s owner Glenn, thanks a lot Glenn!
The look: Very dark burgundy topped by a beige ring of foam
In long: Nose is oak sourness, vinegar, prunes, vanilla. Taste is very vinous, an enormous amount of sour tannic oak, acetic acid, fresh prunes, distant chocolate cake, some bourbon-like notes, sour cherries. Juicy body with minimal carbonation. Finish is a big bite of acetic acid that burns the side of the tongue and the inside of the cheeks. Overall this was just another overly vinegary dark sour ale, there’s a dozen new ones just like this one coming out every week nowadays. I had a hard time drinking my little 330ml bottle. Sad. This Cuvée Freddy Batch 2 is a letdown, sometimes a sequels suck and sometimes it is great, for instance I found that "Anal Intruder II" was far better than the original "Miracle on 34th Street."

(11.2oz bottle best by Jan 2014 thanks to bu11zeye) cloudy red-brown with no bubbles. Nose of funky oak, banana peels. Taste of oak, tannins, black currant, well balanced, and easy to drink. Great.

At ACBF 2011. Clear dark brown, few bubbles on head. Some sourness on aroma. Decent flemish sour, drinkable with some biscuit.
