Pours dark red, no head. Smells like oak. Tastes like a stout mixed with a sour. Creamy charcoal and toffee mixed with vinegar and berries. Slightly sticky finish.

Bottle from Knightly on Orange Blossom. Medicinal looking deep brown pour with very little head that leaves a slim tan ring. Sweet tart, cherry, wood and dark fruit in the aroma. Tastes are oak, port, caramel, cherry, raspberry, vanilla, figs, vinegar. Oily texture. Light even sourness. Dry in the finish. I could drink gallons of this stuff - really nice.

Grenade bottle at Brasserie V. Pitch black with a thin, oily beige head. Quite sour and vinous aroma. Grape, plum, funk. nice! Lactic smooth body/mouthfeel. Quite light and watery, really balanced by the sourness. A still black ale mixed heavily with a sour. Quite nice, delicate. One of my favorite styles, the sour black ale, and they nail it, as opposed to a lot of other wine barrel beers Ive had. Delicious, a great Belgian beer.

Leighton (10683) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 18, 2012
Bottle during the Semi-Final Tasting at my place, London. Your welcome boys. Pours clear brown with a fine, white foam head. Sour nose of wet wood, grapes, berries and light vinegar. Very nice, well rounded flavor with more sour and lightly dry wood, cherries and purple grapes, mild vinegar. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Medium sour finish with lightly tart cherries and more grapes. Mellow, yet nice and complex and well balanced. And, as an extra bonus, this Alvinne bottle didn’t gush!

Bottle @ the Semi-Final Tasting. Cheers, Leighton! Deep brown color with no head. The nose is flanders red - deep cola-spiked cherries and funky sugars. Lightly vinous. The taste is more of the same, some cola with hints of soy sauce and balsamic vinegar, general spiciness. The body’s medium, the carbonation is reasonably soft. Overall, quite nice

Scopey (6659) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 1, 2012
Bottle at Leighton’s Euro Semi-Final tasting, thanks to Leighton. It pours opaque dark brown, with the thin beige film. The nose is balsamic vinegar, cherry, sweet-sour, hint of marzipan, wood and dark fruit. The taste is red grape, nice sweet-sour aspect, balsamic, dark fruit (particularly cherry and red grape), lemon, Granny Smith apple, earth and vinous, with a tangy, tart finish. Medium body and low carbonation. Some alcohol warmth and acidity. An enjoyable sour ale.

On tap at the Blue Monk. Dark mahogany with a light brown head. Funky sweet and sour aroma that reminds me of a flanders brown and earthmonk - cherry, dates, earthy, light malt. Low carbonation, moderate body, somewhat tart yet sweet on the finish with lots of malt and alcohol.
