3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Bigmmartin (568) - Dayton, Ohio, USA - JUL 1, 2008
Bottle: Hazy golden color with a thick frothy head. Aroma is typical Belgian yeast along with some citrus and hops. The flavor is mild sweetness with yeast followed by a moderate hop bitterness...something you don’t usually encounter with this style of beer. I like this flavor and crisp bitter finish more so than that of Belgian dubbels or tripels. Not my favorite Belgian Strong Ale though.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Tripplebrew (714) - Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA - JUN 19, 2008
Pours an extremely cloudy honey amber color with thick white head. Aroma is strong caramelized malts. Aroma is hops and caramel-a pretty interesting balance. body is medium with a lot of carbonation. A creamy beer.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 donteatpoop (127) - Youngstown, Ohio, USA - JUN 19, 2008
Poured a cloudy amber color with a nice white head and good retention as well as a nice lacing patern.
smelled and tasted of sweet caramel malts, with a nice hoppy finish on the tongue.
Very creamy and carbonated a little high, but it seemed to blend well with everything else.
I can’t see this as much as a session beer, but certainly good for one or two.
Serving type: bottle
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Ratman197 (5536) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - JUN 18, 2008
Bottle poured a cloudy orange with a lasting off white head. Aromas of orange, earthiness, light pine, light carmel and hints of grapefruit and spice. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a smooth dry finish. Flavors of orange, carmel, earthiness and light pine with a smooth dry lingering bitter finish.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Maria (7805) - Thisted, DENMARK - JUN 11, 2008
Hazy, warm golden with a huge head. The aroma is spicy, malty and fruity. The flavour has sweetness and notes of malt, spices, citrus and a light, dry bitterness. It’s quite charming.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 urbnhautebourg (997) - Annapolis, Maryland, USA - JUN 9, 2008
The only bad part of the experience was that 1/2 of the bottle’s contents exploded over my kitchen counter. What was left proved to be wonderful. Restrained tropical fruitiness and sweetness with a lot of fun tripley aromas, and a good measure of hops too. Round bitterness comes in really late. Thought this breaks no new ground, I thought it was excellent.
1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 twitcher (298) - framingham, Massachusetts, USA - JUN 2, 2008
Another big miss from Alvinne. "One of the hoppiest beers in Belgium"- yeah, like getting 115 IBUs all from noble hops is a good idea to start with.
Again, QC issues- significant overcarbonation. Too much head off a gentle pour. Smells of apricots, candy sugar, and bready grain. Flavor is NOT hugely hoppy- some tart spicy hops, some bitterness, and mellow malty sweetness. Muddled mess of different flavors. For a brew advertised as hoppy- Alvinne should look into something like Houblon Chouffe, Hop-It, etc.
A decent Belgian Pale... not at all successful as advertised.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 mmhnto (31) - Illinois, USA - MAY 24, 2008
Hazy orage color with huge long-lasting head. Soapy aroma with a bit of lemon and yeastiness. Spicy flavor with balanced hop bitterness. Smooth finish hides the alcohol very well. Very nice beer.
