3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 LarsEngen (296) - Sandvika, NORWAY - APR 25, 2013
33 cl bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika. Pours extremly murky rotten apple brown with a small offwhite head that leaves a lacing. Fruity aroma of strawberry with some alcohol notes. Flavor is fresh hoppy that quickly turns to strong bitterness, and a long dry woody finish. Strange to be a belgian strong ale, but a cool complex version
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Foffern (772) - Bodø, NORWAY - APR 24, 2013
Bottle shared with Vetiafan. The colour is brownish orange and is very unclear with a big frothy light beige head. Lots of spices in the aroma with herbs, Belgian yeast, hay, pale malt, lime and some hops. The flavours follows up with the same but feels more malty with a touch of wood, and has a dry ending. Balanced and nice. Has a smooth and slick mouth feel, and a medium bitterness. A well-balanced and solid strong Belgian ale.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 tfredvik (650) - Oslo, NORWAY - APR 19, 2013
Ok, now I’m a bit confused. Yesterday I had the Alvinne Morpheus Extra R.A., and that one had some quite obvious wild yeasty notes, which I assumed was due to the Morpheus yeast. The Alvinne Gaspar is another brew that is fermented with Morpheus according to the label, but here I don’t get any traces of barnyard or other wild notes whatsoever. So was the Morpheus Extra R.A. infected, are the wild notes for some reason masked in the Gaspar, have two different yeast strains been used or am I just a lousy rater? Anyway, the aroma of the Gaspar is moderate with spices, general fruits, apple, citrus, Belgian yeast and some sweet sugary stuff that remind me of light candi sugar. In the glass the beer looks very cloudy, it has a medium amber colour and is topped by a large, creamy, white, very long-lived head that laces the glass excellently. The taste is moderate sweet, and the sweetness lasts into the aftertaste, but it’s the bitterness that dominates the finish. The bitterness is very heavy, it actually gave me goosebumps. It’s a tongue numbing but pleasant bitterness that lasts and lasts. Cool! The flavours are moderate, with spices, fruits, citrus, Belgian yeast, sweet caramel and a touch of alcohol. The mouthfeel is pleasant, with a medium body, oily texture and quite lively carbonation. A nice one (but not as exiting as the Morpheus Extra).

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Holmen1 (1187) - NORWAY - FEB 26, 2013

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2013 330 ml stubby bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.9%, 115 EBU. Hops are Magnum, Chinook, Columbus and Hallertauer Mittelfrüh. Hazy deep golden colour, huge white head. Lovely aroma of fruity hops, particularly citrus and tropical fruits, hints of pine trees. High level of carbonation in the mouth. The flavour is very sweet with a yeasty spiciness, but also very bitter. Distinctly hoppy throughout. The aftertaste is very bitter, nearly medicinal.
3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 shoulderbroken (1172) - Tokyo, JAPAN - FEB 8, 2013
Bottle at Gainsbar. Golden coloured with big white bubbly head. Aroma is big citrus hop, Belgian yeastiness, quite sharp, little bit funky, some bread malt. Taste is bitter, lemony, slight plastic taste. With yeast added, less bitter and slight caramel sweetness, bit biscuit, bit bitterness at end again. Nice. Bit of bubblegum too.
