RblWthACoz (959), Brooklyn, New York, USA Feb 2, 2008 Pours a very clouded brown orange with a yellow hued crème head. Nose is slight peppery antiseptic. Touch of dough. Slight noticeable alcohol. Extremely full flavor. Robust and earthy. Lots of hops happening here. Very noticeable hit from the alcohol - way too much. Detracts a lot. I feel like I have the alcohol in my mouth. Leaves a bad aftertaste. Feel has a lot of carbonation and a decent liquid feel. Overall though this one is taken down a bit by the strong alcohol presence combined with the earthy and rustic nature of it. Good, but just too much going on to be a smooth drinker.
Floback (249), N-town, Florida, USA Sep 4, 2008 Bottle from Knightly Spirits. Pours a massive 2 inch off-white head that holds tight and firm over a golden/yellowy body. The lacing is pillowy and frothy. An enticing aroma of creamy wheat, citrus, sour yeast, and pepper sticks to the nose hairs. There is a surprising contrast in nose and flavor here: the taste is quite bitter with astingent notes of booze and a big hop presence. Crisp apple in the finish. Highly carbonated and medium/full bodied. The intense alcohol bite mellows out as the beer warms to room temperature. Good brew. tronraner (1410), (Louis-, Sevier-, Knox-)ville, Tennessee, USA Aug 30, 2008 Bottle, with NachlamSie and muenster. Pours opaque gold with sticky white head. The aroma is spice and hay hops, some banana and tropical fruits, and yeasty bread. The flavor is lemony and haylike hops with a decent bitterness. Disembodied fruitiness is everywhere. Finish is dry with a slight alcohol note. Decent. bhensonb (2880), Woodland, California, USA Aug 29, 2008 330 ml bottle from Vintage Cellar. Hazy amber color with a 5-finger white head. Aroma is yeasty caramel with very light funk. Medium body with frothy carbonation. The head is rocky. Flavors of ripe light stone fruit and slightly roasted caramel, and a touch of funk. The bitter bites the edges of the tongue. There are nuances I lack the words to describe. The finish has hints of sugar overborne by hop. It is so kind to the mouth. Wish it had been a 750 ml bottle. It is so, so underrated. Jerks. pineypower (869), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Aug 23, 2008 Pours out a somewhat cloudy copper color, after spewing all over the kitchen. Large white head, big carbonation. Aroma is somewhat lacking, little hop and some yeast. Taste makes up for it though. Nice spice and yeast, slight fruit and rounded out with a very nice hoppy punch throughout, some grassy/citrus hops going on. I thought it was rather solid surlysober (28), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Aug 17, 2008 FIRST TRIAL: A thick white head covers the foggiest, haziest, dirtiest, orange body I think I’ve ever seen; aroma is very spicy from both the European hops and Belgian yeast; alcohol is definitely there in the taste, but is restrained by the bitterness and almost candied sugar-like sweetness; there’s far less carbonation than in most Belgians, but still more than a typical ale. Overall, this isn’t a fantastic beer, and I’ve had hoppier Belgians, with other more redeeming qualities, but it was interesting enough that I’m glad I bought it once.
