3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 fiulijn (10383) - Como, - JUL 13, 2011
Horizontal tasting of Alvinne Hop Trilogy Courtesy of fonefan 83 IBU Hazy to cloudy orange-amber color; generous creamy head; this is the only one in the lot not gushing. The aroma is immediately pungent, very resiny, piney; later it shows more earthy hops, yeast and even a light manure shade. Dry toffee flavor, with a feeling that reminds me malt crispness; very strong bitterness, the hops are very resiny, harsh; there is also a strong presence of Belgian yeast, spicy. The final is very strong, very bitter, excessive indeed, a bit yeasty, spicy, and most of the toffee is lost; possibly less dry than the beer upfront. Of the three, it’s the one where the hop profile is more prominent and more elegant. A good beer, but it confirms by belief that strong American hops marry better with sweet toffee than with spicy Belgian yeast.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Countbeer (1932) - Best of Eindhoven ohne Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - APR 25, 2012
Bottle:
Small gusher. Medium to big airy tan head on top of a deep muddy yellow orange colored beer. Looks strange.
Smell hops, citrus, pine, grapefruit, gass, honey, pilsmalts and some light sweet barley malts.
When taking a first and last sip, some chuncks of yeast (I assume) floath through the mouth.
Taste is a mix hops, citrus, herbs, bitter, lime, lime sweets and lime sour,
Pretty long hoppy bitter aftertaste with a light grape herby and light sour low aftertaste.
Low carbo, soft watery light spicy/tingly mouthfeel, medium to lightly fuller body and a watery texture. Bit out of balance and watery, bit with a nice bitterness.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 FatPhil (6205) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - FEB 26, 2012
750ml bottle (Alvinne Webshop) - exactly at BB date.
6- Acidic nettly hop aroma. Bretty funk too. Might have been more receptive if it wasn’t for the "visual" aspect of the pour. But sour is always on a razor edge for me - when it’s good for me it’s great, when it’s bad for me, it’s very unwanted.
2- Monstrous gusher, went off like a fire extinquisher. On pouring, much of the yeast was already mixed in, and much of the pour was foam, so in the end a metric fuckton of yeast ended in the glass, chunks and all. Overlooking the sinky bits, it looked kinda nice with its full persistent tight creamy head when finally in the glass, but there’s no way such a gusher can go unpunished.
7- Nettles and funk in the retronasals too. The taste has some soapiness, and some almost Orval like funky bitterness. Surprisingly full sweet malts. Yeasty - derrrr!
4 Crisp palate. Nice dry bitter finish, a little bit resiny, just a hint of tingle.
13 Not a bad beer, shame that they can’t get it into my glass in one piece.
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 maeib (6618) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - DEC 13, 2011
Bottled. This gushed extensively and thus poured a really muddy orange with a massive whitish head. A nice orangey hoppy aroma as you’d expoect from Centennial. Bitter oranges in the mouth with plentiful yeast. It would be better if it hadn’t gushed I’m sure.
