3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
6th June 2013
Craft Clerkenwell. Martin T tasting. Hazy dark brown beer, little pale tan head. Light palate, airy, softish and a little dry. Mild gusher. Dry malt, a little cream and a little wood. Mild chocolate and mellow tangy bourbon. Light dry finish. Not bad!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle @ RBESG’13 Grand Tasting @ De Molen: Served in a Molen taster: Thanks for sharing 77ships:
Some brown beige creamy small head/thicker lacing on top of a deep dark brown to black colored beer.
Aromas of brett, bourbon, cream, roast, light vanilla. Soft and smooth.
Flavours of roast, tar, bitter, coal, some hay roast, some spices, some cream, coffee, bitter and a hint of dark fruit.
Aftertaste is bitter, coal, malt/wood burn and liquor.
Low carbo, soft creamy slight silky mouthfeel, full body and a creamy thicker light oily texture.
Very smooth, unfortunately no real bourbon notes, except for the aroma. But it’s an enjoyable beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
My Bottom Line:
Vinous fruitiness accompanies chocolate-y malts while wooden dryness and vanilla slowly move into tartness.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam surrounds the darkness.
-This one needs to breathe a bit (some gushing occurred upon opening).
-This might be a fun sipper, but the flavour profile is rough.
-Some roastiness appears in the nose.
-Alcohol heat roars in the finish.
-The mouthfeel needs work, but that was predictable with the light gushing...

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
75 cl. bottle sampled @ RBESG 2013. Pours black with a creamy mocha head. Nose carries brett, some sour milk, old oak, sweet mocha & sugar,… Clearly different from the regular Mano Negra but the barrel is quite a bit more subdued than expected. Taste is sour, brett, light bourbon, more mellow than expected (or at least clearly more mellow than most Bourbon BA beers), vanilla, light roast, touch of booze, some almost-non bourbon whisky bitter booze in the back, hint sour milk & heavy roast in the back. Creamy, lower carb. milky body. Interesting stuff.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at the RBESG 2013 Grand Tasting. Poured a deep mahogany with an oily consistency and a big frothy tan head. The aroma is of caramel and malt. The flavour is medium bitter with some alcohol inspired liquorice. The oak and bourbon are subtly there in the background and really enhance the flavour. It’s really rather creamy too and it was a super beer to taste.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled @ RBESG 2013 Grand Tasting. Aroma of brett, cow dung, horseblanket. Taste is sweeter, slight biscuit, roasted, chocolat. Bourbon only noticeable in taste a bit, but hardly in the aroma. Strange brew, unbalanced. Not too good, but I do enjoy it, so that’s fine for me.
