Idiosynkrasie (3732) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - SEP 25, 2013
500ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with huge, macropore, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige, head. Vinous dark malty aroma, hints of dark berries, black cherries and blue grapes, a tannic note of fruit parings, some vanilla/bourbon in the background. Taste is vinous dark malty, fruity hints of dark berries, black cherries, blue grapes, some vanilla, a touch of chocolate, some warming alcohol combines with chili hotness in the finish; relatively lively carbonation for an Impy Stout. Slightly inharmonic, slightly arduous.

Enjoyed at the 4de Gents Bierfestival, 2013. The 50cl bottle pours with a dark mahogany body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up smooth sweetened dark roasted malts and toffee mixed with thin ribbons of red wine tartness. The taste starts with all kinds of notes like sweet malts, chocolate malts, toffee and a bit of red wine. Toward midway a pleasing chili heat note grows to modest levels into the finish. I didn’t really notice much in the way of barrel notes but I didn’t miss them either. This works pretty well.

Very dark brown in the glass. OK head. Light sour fruits, yeast and malts. Not a big fan, there seems something wrong with all of the brews of alvinne in my opinion... the yeast is maybe just not my thing....

Bouteille @ 4de Gentse Bierfestival.
