Extremely carbonated as a soft pour produces four-fingers of lightly browned, dark tan colored froth. The beer is quite dark, almost black with perhaps a hint of burnt amber to it. The beer smells of tart prunes, salty soft peat smoke as well as definitely of warm at times hot alcohol. Underneath the initial impression are more fruit-like notes of cherries, and sweet prunes. The hints of smoke mix with aromas of toasted grain and roasted malt.

This is a bit fizzy due to the excess carbonation and it is fairly light bodied for a beer of this strength, but it does have some viscous heft to it. A salty, almost smoky peat character lingers on the palate after each sip. Roasted malt adds some acidity and a bitterness to the finish and there is actually a touch of lingering astringency on the palate too. Whiskey barrel notes definitely dominate the flavor profile and with a touch of tartness that the whiskey contributes, along with the fruit, this can taste vinous at times; almost like a port that is not really sweet.

Interesting, but it just doesn’t seem to work for me. The body and malt character are a bit too thin to stand up to the barrel aging, despite the fact that the barrel really hasn’t been over done here.

Bottle shared by Kyle, thanks! Poured a near clear dark brown with a light brown head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was full of dark grains and a bit of roasted malts backed by a bit of dark fruits and whiskey. Flavor was similar with a more earthy grain note and a good amount of whiskey in the finish. A bit boozy.

Tasting at Papsø
Dark brown color, almost black; flat, no head. The dark malt aroma is a bit dusty and ashy, with very light alcohol and apples. The body is weaker than expected, for this gravity, with a fairly good of chocolate, caramel and roasted malt combination; the whisky barrel just seems to bring some alcohol in the end. The final is rather short, with semi-sweet chocolate and caramel; the intrinsic strength of the beer is covering some light fermentation flaw.

Bottle. Holy-Gusher Beerman! Took over five minutes to calm down, but was worth the wait! The signature Morpheus yeast dominates the front end, but interestingly enough, the end sip is a mixture of sweet coco, coffee and sour elements. Very nice!

Woody roasty aroma. Deep brown with a thin layer of off white head. Roasty flavor with hints of liqour, but not too complex. A bit thin.

Courtesy of bu11zeye. Mahogany color with tan foam. Spicy red wine, sugar, chocolate aromas. light to medium bodied. Sugar, chocolate, wood, vanilla, dark roast malt flavors-my favorite of the three Negress’ that night.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown ruby color with a small longlasting off-white head. Has a roasted malty licorice and dark fruit aroma. Roasted malty woody licorice and dark fruit flavor. Has a sweetish roasted malty woody licorice finish.

(37.5cl bottle thanks to bu11zeye) clearish copper/ruby. Creamy tan bubbles. Nose of cherry, tobacco, Belgian yeast, oak. Taste of alcohol, oak, spices, cherry, tobacco and spirits.

(375ml bottle) Pours a dark brown body with lots of protein particles and a small beige head. Aroma of wood, raisins, coffee, vinous, roasted malt, and dates. Flavor of yeast, roasted malt, wood, caramel, light whiskey, and raisins.
