4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
33 cl bottle from Belgian Beer Station.
This is my 1st Alvinne beer ...
No gusher at all. There was lots of pressure when lifting the cap but no beer flowing out.
A light brown, almost creamy but a bit fizzy head tops a pitch black beer.
The aroma is very strong but oh boy, this is a surprising beer: this doesn’t smell like a traditional stout. I smell roasted malts but also fruity sourness what I didn’t expect at all.
The taste is a blend of a sour flemish red (Rodenbach Grand Cru) and a stout (Guinness). The flemish red is upfront, the stout comes afterwards. The aftertaste is also a mixture of these 2 tastes. It’s an achievement to balance these 2 very different flavours from the start to the end. I like it but ... only for experienced beer tasters.
In Dutch there’s an expression for this beer: "noch vis noch vlees", freely translated in English "Neither fish nor flesh".
This doesn’t mean this is a bad beer ... not at all. It’s amazing, unique, a one of a kind beer.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Black beer with a reddish glow, tan head. Malty aroma, coffee, dark chocolate (of the medium bitter kind), light sour touch. Flavour starts with roasted malts, then taken over by a sour tone, very belgian brown / Rodenbach like. Lots of wild yeast. A little chocolate just about manages to struggle through. Tart finish. This bottle just doesn’t manage to come together. Assuming the sourness is part of an infection? Curious how it would taste when it is as it was intended.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 7/20
This is a funny one, the kinda thing that makes you say "try this isn’t this weird?" Looks like a stout, smells like a stout (although a little strange) but doesn’t taste like a stout until after the initial wave of rodenbachy sourness passes. Interesting and strange. Not bad, but I would only buy it again to show someone else how unexpected it is.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(bottle, 33cl) Black coloured hue with a big and brown foamy head. Roast-malty aroma with notes of coffee, leather and liquorice. Moderately bitter and slightly sweet flavour, almost full bodied with a smooth carbonation. Roasty malt-character with coffee, liquorice, lighter notes of chocolate and a tinge of candy mixing up with the roasted bitterness towards the lasting finish. The alcohol is well-embedded and pleasantly warming. Pleasant stuff from Belgium. 19.VI.11

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Notes torrades i amargants, omple la boca. Final molt llarg, sec i de cafč. Carbňnic un punt massa agressiu. Potser li falta més cremositat.
