Bottle, shared by OleR. A big, dense, off-white head sits on top of a clear, amber colored body. The aroma has some notes of alcohol, not much considering the ABV, with a touch of bourbon, but not much vanilla. There’s also piney hops, fruityness and a light caramel maltyness. A bit heavy on the carbonation, it’s full-bodied, semi-sweet and lightly warming on the palate. Bitter flavor with some sweetness as well as pine cones, resins and caramel. Lasting finish. A really nice one, well worth a revisit. 121201
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 OleR (4247) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAR 16, 2013
A tall fluffy blond head, atop a clear amber colored body. Fresh smell of candy-like fruits. A whiff of alcohol, subtle wood and bourbon. Lively carbonation, feels quite full in the mouth. Medium malt body. Fairly sweet with a touch of caramel. Light acidic fruit tones. Rounded oak and bourbon. Earthy and resinous bitterness underneath. Alcohol is noticable, providing a warming sensation. Lingering bitter-sweet ending. Complex and tasty. Good stuff. [Shared bottle enjoyed @yngwie’s. 01.12.12]

Beer #6 at BBF12. Wow. This is a strong one. Interesting Barley Wine. Wood and vanilla notes. Lots of bourbon hints. Bitter, spicey. Weird hints. Very interesting. Makes me want to try the original Melchior.

27/IV/13 - on tap @ Zythos Bierfestival (2013-418) Thanks to the Belgian ratebeer crew for sharing our beers today!
Clear amber beer, big creamy off-white head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of caramel, sweet, sugary, bit fruity, rum (the booze yes), dried fruits, some banana. MF: soft carbon, full body. Taste: bitter start, grains, alcohol noticeable, little caramel, nutty, more alcohol sweetness, bit metallic. Aftertaste: sugary touch, metallic, bitter, banana, rum again. Pretty good, but I preferred the Monbazillac!
