UPDATED: JUL 21, 2010 Bottled. Amber color. Vinous aroma, like oak aged burgundy wine, hiding the malt. Malty sweetish flavor with hazelnuts, strong notes of red wine, toffee, oak, alcohol and raisin. The burgundy wine barrels dominate this beer, but also add complexity. A very good marriage! 750 ml bottle, enjoyed 21.07.10: 11,5%. Light amber color, cloudy. Oak and citrus in the vinous aroma. Oak in the slightly tart flavor. Lemon. Vinous notes. Malt. Alcoholic with soft Rodenbach-like notes. Good and complex.

No head - looking for all the world like a 20yr old, forgotten beer. UFO’s abundant. Very old wine/old sherrylike, prematurely oxydized, like sour sherry. Sweet, lightly oxydized flavours, again sherry, but turning out not to be really sour. Completely flat, needs desperately some conditioning (BTW, bottle was filled to less than 1cm from the top). Alcoholburning, very slick, and of course very light-bodied. Impression as from partly dried unripe grapes on sherry. Whatever happened to this one?

Had this at the Borefts Beer Festival, De Molen Brewery, Bodegraven, Netherlands 30-10-09 Pours orange/amber with a white head. The alcohol is quite heavy and this is a little sweet. Bit fruity with the wine cask influence a touch muted, I might have got a little woodiness I’m not entirely sure. A6 A3 F7 P4 Ov13 3.3

A Mes rate. Draught at Pre ZBF.
Darkish murky amber with a slight white film top. Not the best looking beer from Alvinne. Should this matter? I care, I can’t help it, it’s all part of the experience. Aroma, jesus... this smells fantastic to me. Big wine notes, obviously but there is some desert wine and vintage port in there too. Whiffs of resinous wood and sharp but elegant alcohol too. A glorious smelling beer. The flavour can’t quite keep up but it’s still pretty bloody good. If you concentrate I can pick out all that I like about the aroma but they just seem to mash together in the mouth coming up with a result that is slightly lesser than the sum of its parts. Excellent dried fruit, rich caramel and more wine barrel in the finish. A rewarding experience and I’m glad I have some of this tucked away for another sample.
