3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, 75cl, at RBNG-14 Grand Tasting. An unclear, golden colored beer, flat as a pancake. Berries, honey and a generic fruityness in the aroma. Pretty vinous too. Itís full-bodied and almost flat, with boozy notes. Apricots, honey, vinous booze and some faint peppery notes in the flavor. Lasting boozy finish. Not sure about this one, I like the vinous touch although itís too boozy, but then itís too boozy... Nice aromas and flavors though. 140215

750 ml bottle at home - taken from notes (21/11/2010). Deep amber colour, no head. Aroma of cognac/calvados alcohol/esters is well present, together with some more nutty and fruity notes (frangipane pie = almond cake with apricot/peach jam). Sweet and quite thick body... Like.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
1/27/2011: Alvinne The Oak Melchior (Ale brewed with
mustard seeds and aged in oak [Calvados] barrels)... Aroma: Crisp,
tart, alcoholic; funky and herbal with just a tinge of sweetness.
Appearance: Murky deep gold color; thin off-white ring of foam around
the edges. Flavor: Sweet, pale malts in the front with fruity
undertones; lots of alcohol through the nose; dry, oaky and herbal
from the middle through the finish; unfortunately, I canít pick out
the mustard seed... Palate: Medium-full, not really smooth - PASTY
is a good way to describe it, but not bad; slightly sticky on the
lips. Overall: Pretty good, but I would have liked to have the mustard seed show through to really make this one unique.
