3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle at pre ZBF at Alvinne 06-03-09 Pours murky golden with a thin white head. Aroma is woody of that there is no doubt and the Calvados ageing is noticeable, as I can just pick an appleyness. Its got quite a tanginess and its really quite interesting but the actual beer seems a little lost. Despite its best efforts to draw me in I never really got on with this beer, but nonetheless am pleased to see beers like this and was glad to have tried it. A7 A3 F5 P3 OV12 3.0

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle thanks to Tom at RBESG 2014. It pours hazy gold with suspended particles and small white head. The nose is earthy, brett, funk, apple pie, candy, wood, mild acidity, hay and barnyard. The bitter, acidic, big wood, earth, funk, barnyard, alcohol, vinous, brandy and even more wood with a dry finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. A bit woody and boozy.... Too much for me.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled at pre-Zythos bash, Alvinne, March 2009. Very murky pale orange colour. Sort of rubbery appley aroma. Almost cider-like. Lots of quite sweet vanilla oak and spirity notes that were rather dominant and didn’t seem perfectly integrated into the beer. Some residual sweetness. Didn’t really do it for me - possibly a bit green. Maybe one of the few beers that I think I might have appreciated more with some bottle age.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750mL bottle. Poured translucent, lighter orange with a white head that fizzled out really quickly.. kind of shiny. The aroma picked up more Calvados than anything else, with cognac and related dark fruit backing it up.. some oak and dry, peppery yeast in there as well.. this was nice, but it was almost all barrel. The flavor opened with tangy oak and sour/lightly-metallic boozage.. dark fruits, honey, and a bit of biscuity malt at the core.. lots more Calvados and peppery yeast on the long, dry, belly-warming finish.. just about an "8". Medium-plus bodied with low, but prickly carbonation on the palate.. the barrel stole the show, but it did provide some very interesting character.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the 2011 Max’s Belgian Fest: Pours a clear deep golden amber with a spotty-lacing ring of white bubbles. Has a big complex sweet cognac and oak nose with light fruity toffee. Starts with pretty good fullness and mild carbonation with light grape and apple fruitiness before a thinner warming finish. Pretty unique and complex brew, but could be a little more drinkable.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A Mes rate. Bottle from Alvinne but drunk with our Weasel over at his.
A murky orange blonde colour with a thin white head. Lovely aroma. Calvados a plenty with some good barrelly notes, slight spice and cinnamon plus an awesome sugary hit too. Excellent! The flavour follows on in an equally rich form. Big boozy hits work unusually well. Glorious sweet and sour finish. Bloody lovely.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Taster on tap at Churchkey. Hazy red orange amber color. Thin off-white head. Leaves great, thicker lace. Good light tart taste, light bit of heat, moderate bitter. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, soft, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Light bit of alcohol warmth, but no burn or bite.. ABV is very well-hidden. Good baked apple, oak, light spice, some ginger. Great, complex, flavorful stuff.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20

Pouring at Where the Wild Beers Are. Pours a hazed apricot amber with a thin white head. Soft wood, apples, musk. Super sweet, musky and woody. Wood, musk, caramel, light toast. Musk and wood with some funk. Didn’t really stand out in any way.
