Bottled. A hazy dark golden beer with a thin lazing off-white head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, alcohol, and over ripe fruits, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.

Bottle courtesy of Alan. Thanks! Pours clear dark golden color with white head. Aroma is interesting. I can’t put my finger on the gritty part. A twang and a hit of booze. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor is a sharp, pretty pungent note of booze and other flavors I’m just not that familiar with. Interesting.

Dry blonde with hints of orange-peel bitterness and light apple-alcohol calvados tones. Hazy orange in color with a slight white head. This was a pretty enjoyable beer!

750mL bottle from Leuken’s Oldsmar. Pours a hazy yellow with orange highlights and a swirl of white head. Nose is sweet malt, mustard, cognac, some barnyard, and some booze. It has distinct sour qualities to it that make me think it might have brett, but after exploring the beer a bit more, I believe it is more of the combination of the barrel with the mustard seed. Flavor is musty, malt, bretty quality, oak, cognac, and some tartness/ vinous quality. Calvados is nowhere near as pronounced as I anticipated for the stamp on the bottle. More cognac than calvados comes through. Light to medium-bodied and a strange take on this one.

750mL bottle. Poured translucent, lighter orange with a white head that fizzled out really quickly.. kind of shiny. The aroma picked up more Calvados than anything else, with cognac and related dark fruit backing it up.. some oak and dry, peppery yeast in there as well.. this was nice, but it was almost all barrel. The flavor opened with tangy oak and sour/lightly-metallic boozage.. dark fruits, honey, and a bit of biscuity malt at the core.. lots more Calvados and peppery yeast on the long, dry, belly-warming finish.. just about an "8". Medium-plus bodied with low, but prickly carbonation on the palate.. the barrel stole the show, but it did provide some very interesting character.

Not quite as good as expected. Poured at a good temperature; it was a gusher; with a small, cream-colored head that settled to a thin island and ring, no lace. Color would be a clear, but for the large amount of tiny particulates in suspension, amber. Aroma is yeast, malt, mustard, fruit. Flavor is more bitter then tang, then sweet. Although in the finish it’s sweet and tang that linger. Otherwise, also like nose. Body has some clashes between bitter and tang along with some heavy boozieness.

Wow. Fantastic. Brings a liqueur touch. Maybe a little overwhelming on my palate at this point in the evening. Doesn’t really strike me as "Belgians"..a creature unto itself. Hardcore barrel treatment. Tasty, brutal spirit/beer hybrid.

Bottle at RBESG ’14, day 4 not so grand tasting at Craft Clerko, 10/08/14 thanks to the Cad. Lightly hazed golden with moderate off white edgeing. Nose is tarte fruit rinds, oaky wood, soured berry notes, straw, must. Taste comprises light booze, rich fruit mix, spice, tangy dark fruits, light caramel. Medium + body, fine carbonation, lightly warming booze in the close. Decent enough barley wine, getting the BA woodyness but necessarily calvados.
