Bottle@home. Three finger beige stable foam. Dark golden. Fine fruity citrus hay notes. Pronounced barnyard bitterness and fresh tartness. Not much sugar left. Suspect a Brett yeast in this on too. Love it.

Pours a bright orangish color with small suspended particles. Light tan head to a film. Smell is yeast, fruit, some spice. Taste is as it smells ending dry bitter and a bit fruity. Carbonation is high and a bit rough. Body is light/medium.

Bottle at home. Has a nice orange colour and seems very unclear with lots of fluffy off-white foam. The first thing that strikes me is a very exciting and spicy herbal aroma that is somewhere between pepper and basil. Lurking in the background is sweet Belgian yeast and fruity notes of apricot and lemon in the end. The taste plays out in the same manner, but here are some of fruitiness replaced with a dry, grassy hops that accelerates into the aftertaste. The mixture of malt and hops also gives the beer woody tones in the background. Mouth feel is nice and smooth, and has a medium bitterness. An interesting beer where the mixture of a traditional Belgian beer with an American IPA comes into its own, with a spicy touch on top.

UPDATED: APR 28, 2013 From the EBU, EBC and hop list on the label I was quite certain that this was an american IPA, but the first smell reveals that this obviously isn’t the case. The aroma is strong with both a sweet and an acidic touch, but what is more interesting are the wild notes. The aroma is quite yeasty, and the yeast is an interesting and pleasant mix of Belgian yeast and wild yeast, giving notes of both barnyard and sweet fruits. I also get spices and citrus, but I had expected even stronger citric notes and regular IPA notes from the US hops. When it comes to the looks this is an ugly bastard. As soon as I opened the bottle the murky medium yellow liquid, mixed with dirty foam, gushes out of the bottle. In the glass the body is utterly opaque. The off-white head (with its light-brown sediment-infested patches) is long-lived and laces the glass excellently. The taste is light sweet, light acidic, light sour and moderate to heavy bitter. Wow, that’s an unusual combination! The flavours are quite strong with wild barnyard notes, fruits, spices, herbs and sweet honey in the aftertaste that competes with the firm bitterness. Medium body, moderate dry texture and moderate to soft carbonation. A complex, fun, interesting and actually quite enjoyable experiment.
[33 cl bottle, enjoyed 16 months before BB date, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo]
