crizay (1069), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Jan 5, 2008 Dark brownpour huge gusher of an almond head that would not be tamed. Aroma is sour and roasty. Flavor is chocolate, a bit of roastiness, fruity esters and a touch of sourness. More chocolate in the aftertaste with some coffee. Full mouthfeel, lots of carbonation and just a creamy texture to it. Alcohol couldn’t be hidden anymore.
oh6gdx (5207), Vaasa, Finland Jul 26, 2008 Bottled. Quite much black colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some fruits, licorice and also some yeastyness. Flavour is yeast, fruits, roasted malts and some licorice. Also alcohol shows and some quite wooden notes. A lot sweeter than I expected, yet quite wellbalanced and drinkable. martinboer (1297), Amsterdam, Netherlands Jul 21, 2008 Bottle from Cracked Kettle. Dark brown body with slight head. Sweet, plummy nose. Taste of dark, dark fruits. Some licorice. Quite sweet. More carbonated than I’m used to for an Imperial Stout. But very yummy nonetheless. goozen (730), Leiden, Netherlands Jul 19, 2008 Bottle 0,33ltr: Hazy black beer with some fruity sweet taste and the familiar bitter drynesh. FatPhil (1965), Espoo, Finland Jul 14, 2008 330ml bottle. (Ealing BF2008)
Almost black, beige head. Sweet and fruity aroma, slightly brown and sour. Taste has raisins in spades. Too sweet, alas, but it certainly covers the alcohol well. Stouts, in particular imperial ones, shouldn’t be this stickily sweet imho. There are better big beers out there, but I’d not turn down an offer of another one, that’s for sure! cmillward (143), Orlando, Florida, USA Jul 13, 2008 Bottle. Black with chestnut hints, creamy tan head, rocky leaving nice lacing on the glass. Not your typical imp stout, but wonderful all the same. Huge aroma of chocolate, fruit, bready yeasts, a hint of funk, chocolate covered cherries, dark berries, and candi sugar. On the tongue this delivers a new combination of the aforementioned elements. Its starts with tart berries, slightly acidic, chocolate covered cherries, sugared figs, coffee, caramel, candi sugar, doughy yeasts.
Initially tart and fizzy, then sweet and sugary with coffee and caramel and chocolate, a bitter finish with a touch of alcohol along the way. Despite all the sweetness it ends dry. Full bodied and well balanced carb. I was impressed with the complexity and depth of character. This kept me on my toes and was excellent.
