TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a hazy, dark brown with red highlights and a small, off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. There were also small particles in the body of and average to thick density. The aroma was moderate cocoa powder and chocolate syrup; moderate yeast, vanilla, licorice, cola, spices and dark fruit. The initial flavor was sweet, lightly sour and slightly acidic; while the finish was rather sweet and sour with an average duration. There was chocolate syrup, dark fruit, yeast, vanilla and cola. The medium to full body, which was a little thin for the style, was fairly creamy, but also oily with lightly fizzy carbonation and a moderate to heavy alcoholic finish.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 20, 2009 What a gusher! After the enormous head settles, I have a black beer with sediment and a pillowy, fluffy, light tan head which is mostly lasting and leaves some sporadic lace. Nose is delightful with lots of rich malts and candied fruits; notes of black strap molasses, toffee and maple, candies currants all over, light leather and floral notes, brown sugar, light anise, and roasted almonds. Flavor is similar but lacks some the intense richness I was expecting; molasses and toffee to start, roasted almonds filter in and dry things out a bit, and undertones of anise, leather, currants, and just hints at dark chocolate. Palate is nice with a full body, creamy and velvety feel, and soft to lively carbonation; my only complaint is that it is a bit dry for and IS. The finish gains more dark chocolate, a bit of coffee, currants, and lingering dry notes from the roasted almonds. A complete surprise given the ratings, but I really enjoyed this one. The nose reminded me a bit of WWS, which is a great thing. Not quite at the level of some my favorite examples of the style but still quite a refreshing IS and pleasantly delightful. deflagro (100), Lund, Sweden
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 17, 2009 Bottle. Coke-coloured beer with some floats and a huge head leaving lots of traces on the glass. Aroma is a bit roasted, a bit hoppy and with lots of yeast. Quite fruity, typically of a Belgian stout. Taste is balancing between Belgian yeast, a distinct hop profile with some bitterness and a roasted stout-flavour. Really a Belgian stout, a good one. BREWMUSKCLES (1094), New Jersey, USA

Aroma is fruity, yeasty and medicinal with no stout qualities what so ever. The flavor is medicinal and fruity like an infected quad. Once again no Wimpy Stout qualities. Ugh this sucks. jcr (1195), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 9, 2009 Draft. Ginger Man, NYC. Large, frothy tan head, mostly lasting. Body is deep brown, speckled. the aroma is sweet with notes of caramel, toast, licorice, vanilla, raisin, prune, dustiness and alcohol. the flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter leaving a taste of sweet cough medicine. Medium to full body, smooth texture that turns sticky, lively carbonation. I had not idea what style this was and assumed from its looks and flavor that it was a Belgian strong ale. Some good things about this, particularly its dark fruit sweetness combined with the licorice taste. Overall, though, it is on the edge of being cloyingly sweet. schuimkroaat (395), Leuven, Belgium
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 6, 2009 33 cl bottle, bottled/bbe? Dark brown with a red hue. Huge frothy head stabilising at several millimeter after a while; laces well . Nose pleasantly perfumed with chocolate, vanilla, nut liqueur. Sweet, but not assertively, and moderately spicy. A hint of plum jam and nut oils in the finish. Full bodied. Lasting bitter and spicy aftertaste and alcoholic warmth, the only point when the 10.5% alcohol become apparent. eManu (215), Brussels, Belgium
