4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
11.2oz bottle. Thick, murky, brown color. Big, foamy head which isn’t going anywhere fast. Perfect spice and brown sugar aroma. Rich and full of flavor, but not that syrupy sweet thickness that dominates most. Rich and yeasty. Sweet and bitter. This one is all over the place. Sourness, cocoa, and candi collide. What a beer, possibly the Belgian Stout I’ve had, albeit none to stouty. Super recommended, this one’s a classic.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Khyber Pass. Very dark brown pour that starts with beige foam that mostly disappeared. Large swath of dark caramel malt flavors. Earthy, musty wood barrel notes. Dark chocolate cherry cordials. Liquorice roots. Truffles. Sweet orange peels. Fruitcake. Slight smoke. Bit tart. Body reads a bit thin. Belgium yeast is noticeable. Not my favorite, but not bad at all.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle labelled 2007 (thanks Martin!), pours a brown that’s near-black with a beige head, quite gassy though thankfully not a gusher. Nose is cocoa, musty wood, touches of liquorice and Bovril. Rich and heavy yet somehow slightly watery too. More cocoa and liquorice, along with dry bitterness and a slightly tart plumminess in the background. Strong dry and slightly sour umami notes. Very Belgian!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Made in honour of Chris ’Podge’ Pollard, this was Belgium’s very first attempt at imperial stout. Very dark, almost black colour under a deep, dense beige head; full and rich aroma, lots of chocolate, toffee, wood, coffee, candied fruits, spicy yeastiness; very full and deeply malty palate, fruity with a long dry roasted bitter finish and warming alcohol. Certainly worthy of its style.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A sweet stout with more yeast, dark fruit and sourness than is typical, though still predominantly chocolate and toasted malt.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Yeasty, hot butterscotch and dark fruit aroma. Dark brown and mud like in appearance. All sweet and sourish in a hearty dark malt kind of way. Disappointingly thin body, really killed it for me. Amazing how a 93 overall score amounts to half that number for this style. Tough crowd.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle bought some place I can’t remember. Pours murky blackish brown with a rather small fizzy beige head that quickly dissipates while leaving some trace on the glass. Smell is malty and vinous with sweet dark bread, cereal, caramel, toasted malts, moist wood, red wine, hay, sweet liquorice candy and alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, tiny sour, malty, fruity and vinous with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, sweet dark bread, raisins, moist wood, cereal, warming alcohol, dark chocolate and red wine. Mouthfeel is soft, creamy, tiny boozy, tiny fruity tart and near full bodied. Finish is bitter and tiny sour with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, burnt wood, red wine, alcohol and caramel. Quite good...

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
From a 33 cl bottle shared at home. Pours black with a massive tan head (this bottle was a gusher!). Tart dark cherry nose. Flavors of licorice and tart green apple. Bitter tart finish.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours dark dark brown with a tams dissipating head. This bottle was very tart even sour. Not sure if this was intentional. Lots of chocolate and dark fruits also. Interesting beer.
