Let me preface this by saying I think I got a bad bottle. It poured very fizzy and even had a coke like vanishing head. It continued bubble for several minutes. Aroma is creamy with strong vanilla and toffee. Flavor reminded me of a flat coke float with a hand full of toasted malts.

Cola coloured with an inch of tan foam. Great lacing.
Nose of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt bitterness, with a hint of Brett.
Very bitter roasted malt and chocolate to start. Light coffee with a very dry almost tart taste in the finish.
Medium body and carbonation.
The cap mentions October 2016. A best after date? The label says it can be kept for 8 years or more.

More like a Belgian strong than an imperial stout. Strong yeasty flavours, and sour notes. Not unbalanced though, and very enjoyable.

Draft at Khyber Pass. Very dark brown pour that starts with beige foam that mostly disappeared. Large swath of dark caramel malt flavors. Earthy, musty wood barrel notes. Dark chocolate cherry cordials. Liquorice roots. Truffles. Sweet orange peels. Fruitcake. Slight smoke. Bit tart. Body reads a bit thin. Belgium yeast is noticeable. Not my favorite, but not bad at all.

Bottle labelled 2007 (thanks Martin!), pours a brown that’s near-black with a beige head, quite gassy though thankfully not a gusher. Nose is cocoa, musty wood, touches of liquorice and Bovril. Rich and heavy yet somehow slightly watery too. More cocoa and liquorice, along with dry bitterness and a slightly tart plumminess in the background. Strong dry and slightly sour umami notes. Very Belgian!

Made in honour of Chris ’Podge’ Pollard, this was Belgium’s very first attempt at imperial stout. Very dark, almost black colour under a deep, dense beige head; full and rich aroma, lots of chocolate, toffee, wood, coffee, candied fruits, spicy yeastiness; very full and deeply malty palate, fruity with a long dry roasted bitter finish and warming alcohol. Certainly worthy of its style.

Draft at ebenezer’s. Black pour with some lacing. Dark malt aromas, very strong tones. Flavors are dark malt, roasted and other malty tones, has a bit of alcohol warmth.

Gusher! Black colour, brown foam. Aroma of roasted malts with notes of chocolate and dark fruit. Light sour hints. Good beer!

Yeasty, hot butterscotch and dark fruit aroma. Dark brown and mud like in appearance. All sweet and sourish in a hearty dark malt kind of way. Disappointingly thin body, really killed it for me. Amazing how a 93 overall score amounts to half that number for this style. Tough crowd.

Bottle bought some place I can’t remember. Pours murky blackish brown with a rather small fizzy beige head that quickly dissipates while leaving some trace on the glass. Smell is malty and vinous with sweet dark bread, cereal, caramel, toasted malts, moist wood, red wine, hay, sweet liquorice candy and alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, tiny sour, malty, fruity and vinous with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, sweet dark bread, raisins, moist wood, cereal, warming alcohol, dark chocolate and red wine. Mouthfeel is soft, creamy, tiny boozy, tiny fruity tart and near full bodied. Finish is bitter and tiny sour with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, burnt wood, red wine, alcohol and caramel.
