Draft @ Max’s. Dark pour with some tan head. Oak, peat, smoke, some chocolate and roasty malt characteristics. Some licorice and etoh notes as well, abv warming isn’t overwhelming.

Picked this up at West Lakeview in Chicago. Served in a snifter. Pours a very dark brown with a thin mocha head and a bit of lacing. Thin collar as it goes down. The nose has quite a bit of roasted malt plus some chocolate. A very nice oak presence as well. Also, a bit of cream. The taste improves on this and really adds some complexity. There is a nice roasty background along with some dark chocolate and a backing dark-fruit presence. Medium body with some slight booze. Drinks quite well. Glad I picked this up. Bottle, 10cl, at BAJT porter week 2012. Murky brown, almost no head. Nice thick aroma with licorice, a difficult to pinpoint wine character and chocolate. Taste: licorice, chocolate, vinous, dark and red berries, sweet, light boozy. Nice, with a heavy barrel influence.

Nothing like a stout really, but I don’t care. Very wine like, with oak and tannins coming through. Mouthfeel is light, but it sort of fits. really drinkable, bottle went down really fast.

Draft... Pours dark and crimson with a small, bubbly, off-white head. Decent retention. Smells chocolaty, woody and acidic. Medium to full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and gentle carbonation. Equally bitter and acidic. A touch nutty and buttery. Not as sweet or chocolaty as I expected. Lengthy, tangy, mildly bitter finish.

Fruity woody flavor, vanilla, dry oak, wild strawberries, vinous, chocolate, vanilla, grapes, some viol. Maybe lacking a little body, but otherwise very interesting.
