COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Podge Belgian imperial Stout was aged for several months on wine barrels from the french Bourgogne. The beer has subtle winearomas with accents of red fruit and chocolate. Special Burgundian Babblebelt Edition.

Bottle. Good vanilla aroma, some alcohol. Very dark brown colour. No head. The flavour starts off a little sweet, then it turns to port, vanilla, citric vinous note. Good alcohol level, but not overpowering. Rather thin mouthfeel.

Bottled. Deep ruby red colour, not much head. Aroma is caramel malts, wood, some caramel and also some mild notes of alcohol. Flavour is caramel, fruits, some wooden notes, mild spices and a certain sourness. Not very much imperial stout left in the flavour in this one.

Clear dark brown color with virtually none head. Aroma is light heavy malty, roasted, caramel, fruity - berry, red wine, cask wood, licorice - anis. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet, light acidic and moderate bitter with a long to average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is flat. [20090306]

The oak aged beer is black with a red hue and a creamy head. The aroma has strong notes of bourgogne barrel, roasted malt and yeast. The flavor has sweetness and notes of roasted malt, bourgogne barrel, yeast, licorice, caramel, plum and it is quite vinous and nice.

Draft at Redlight. Blackish red pour. Sour, roasted grain, oak barrel, cherry aroma very wine like. Chocolate malt, sour cherry oak flavor slightly tart. Again, lots of wine elements blended very well. Tasty.

Murky brown color with a small, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruits, vanilla, roasted malts, cocoa, and smoke. Taste of roasted malts, chocolate, spices, dried fruits, vanilla, and light alcohol as well. Head and shoulders above the regular version!

Draft @ Max’s. Dark pour with some tan head. Oak, peat, smoke, some chocolate and roasty malt characteristics. Some licorice and etoh notes as well, abv warming isn’t overwhelming.

750mL bottle, March 2009 bottling.. BB Feb 2014. Poured rather clear medium-deep garnet with a tight-bubbled beige head.. left some nice lacing as it descended. The aroma was chock full of redder vinous notes and oak, with toasted nutty and chocolate sweetness behind.. the "several months" in the barrel left a colossal impression, and thankfully the wine was enticing. The flavor found redder fruits, vinous notes, and dry-roasted chocolate at the core.. wine and dry oak laced throughout.. finished with oaky tartness, red wine, and a bit of chocolate. Medium-bodied, dry, and grainy on the palate with low-ish overall roast (although a touch burnt at times).. the wine (and related barrel character) drove all facets of the drink, and thankfully it was enjoyable.. I’d love to see the same barrels used on a bigger stout, but I’d gladly drink another of these.

750ml Bottle: Aroma of Belgian yeast, oak, malt, light chocolate, red wine, light dark ripe fruit, roasting, slight fruit, and hints of caramel and alcohol. Poured very dark brown/magenta in color with a medium-sized, creamy, dense, tan/brown head that diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Lightly sparkling. Full of small, medium, and large-sized particles throughout. Good lacing. Complex flavor is medium sweet and slightly bitter. Tastes of malt, alcohol, oak, light vanilla, roasting, light dark ripe fruit, red wine, berries, light chocolate, light coconut, light caramel, and slight tar. Medium to full body. Slightly thin, then dry texture. Soft to average carbonation. Roasted malt, light chocolate, light tar, red wine, oak, coconut, vanilla, slight alcohol, and light dark ripe fruit finish is dry. 10.5%ABV is lightly noticeable in the aroma and flavor, but not hot or overbearing.
