Rated on 5-25-2011 (Bottle 9%ABV) This beer has a large very fizzy beige head with a short retention, reddish brown body, fizzy, fast rising carbonation, and one ring of lacing. The aroma is malt, oak, some chocolate, vanilla, some hops, alcohol, and some dark fruit. The taste is malt, alcohol, vanilla, oak, light sournes, and has a semi-dry finish. The mouthfeel is light carbonation and this beer is light-medium bodied. A rather tasty beer with some different flavors for the style.

Bottle 750 ml from a trade with Countbeer, thanks Kamiel! ABV 10.5%, poured into a tulip glass. Same case with the Eycken, I was sure it was going to gush and it did, thankfully I was prepared. HUGE GUSHER! Vwery dark brown colour on the body, small tan head. Okay retention, light lacing left on the glass. Aroma of red grapes, lots of vinous notes, cork, wood, light chocolate. Taste is much better than I expected actually, I expected something very sour but it’s not like that, there is a sourness but quite subtle. Roasted malts, light chocolate again, grapes, wine notes, wood, barely sweet on the finish. On the aftertaste a mild bitterness coming from the roasted malts. Quite complex with a wide range of flavours. The high alcohol very well hidden. Full body, soft carbonation. Overall a great beer. Just a month past BBD, at its peak or it certainly seems so. The barrel aging surely added something in this one.

Bottle bought from Etre Gourmet in 2011? Dark reddish/brown with a small head. The aroma was a bit tart with berries, wood, nuts and red wine. Similar taste, also some licorice. An interesting and vinous "Imperial Stout".

@Eddan: ganska komplex doft av både jordgubbar och nötter samt en liten hint av rödvin (fat). Smaken är lite udda med syrlig tone samtidig som den ger en torr och nötaktig ton. Inte mycket som påminner om en imp stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750ml bottle. Murky dark red-brown shade with thin cap. Big fruity red wine and chocolatey cocoa aroma. Taste follows the exact same path. Medium body, medium carb. Not hugely complex, but pretty tasty. The wine barrel works in good harmony with this stout.

Best before October of 2014.
Appearance: The beer pours a lighter shade of brown than most stouts and appears a deep chestnut instead of black in the glass. The head is towering at first but settles into a frothy cappuccino coating.
Aroma: Cocoa is most present with a slightly acidic red wine characteristic with hints of tannins. The aroma is restrained and becomes very muddled upon swirling, it’s most prevelant with cocoa and red grape when settled for a moment.
Taste: The intro is a bit confusing, but a blend of cocoa and semi-sweet red wine flavors, the flavors separate by the mid taste with deep chocolate notes overlying a pronounced red wine and cherry presence that is strongest near the finish with a dry red wine spritzer like presence. The red wine finish is taken over by deep chocolate sweetness, but the red wine and tannins linger.
Palate: Light to medium bodied with high carbonation.
Overall: This is pricey, but it’s very intriguing. I feel the dry wine accents the sweet chocolate very nicely. This would have been a great beer to pair with a cherry cheesecake or something with cherries in it for desert, unfortunately my bottle took a soft fall out of the fridge and I had to drink it as the cap came loose.

750 ml. bottle from PhillyCraft. Hmmm. This doesn’t really look like a stout. It has a dark amber, reddish tint to it with a disappearing khaki colored head. The aroma is SUPER vinous. Lots of oak, red wine, sherry, some nuttiness and dark red fruit. Kind of like a nice aged barleywine. The flavor is the same. Full bodied with lighter carbonation. Sherry, nuts, red wine and oak stand out. Pretty decent offering.

Cloudy brown beer, good pale tan head. Comparatively light palate. Crispy and semi dry. Hardly any dark malt here. Lots of red wine. Minerals. A little wood in the back end. Mild aniseed alcohol. Semi dry finish. The base beer is overwhelmed by the barrel. But still very nice!

Bottle, 10cl, at BAJT porter week 2012. Murky brown, almost no head. Nice thick aroma with licorice, a difficult to pinpoint wine character and chocolate. Taste: licorice, chocolate, vinous, dark and red berries, sweet, light boozy. Nice, with a heavy barrel influence.
