it doesn’t look so nice when you pour it in a glass. copper coloured sour ale The taste is good if you like sour ales which is not a very traditional taste in many countries. In Belgium it goes back a long way. I liked it but not for 75cl. Maybe better in a 33 cl bottle.

Sampled at torst with Jay and Matt after WtWBA 2013 in Brooklyn. Pours a hazy amber body with thin white head and lacing. Mouthfeel is malt, light bread and a funkiness. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of dust, cheese, faint fruit (lemons), spice, light oak and light acidity.

Bottle. Pours amber, no head. Aroma of tart granny smith apple. Taste is extremely refreshingly crisp tartness. Lots of green apple, some vinuous later on the tongue. Got a hugely complex sour, but I feel like I could chug this night after night.

Sampled @ Haand 2013. Slightly hazy dark golden body with practically no head. Wonderful in aroma, light malt, berries, fruit, wine and pleasant acidity. Flavor is fresh and fruity with moderate and balanced acidity, red berries and a light hint of wood. Fine body and dry aftertaste. Tasty and very quaffable.

Bottle. No mention of Stillwater on the label that I can see. Rusty amber with no head. Strong red wine and sour fruit notes to this. Taste is very sour with lots of sour berries and lemon with wine notes, wet wood and wild, funky yeast notes. Body is light-medium with no carbonation feel and lots of dry, acidic sourness. Ends with a long lasting dry finish during which more sour berries, tart fruit, lemon, wild yeast, wet wood, earthy notes and light vinegar come through. A sessionable sour?

500 mL bottle thanks to Greg!! Pours a murky mahogany color with decent sized, very bubbly white head. Nose and flavor are rife with lacto sour kick, cheesecloth, red wine, greek yogurt, unripe plum. A nice sort of unorthodox take on an oud bruin, with an intriguing and pleasant acidic tartness. A touch thin on the palate, but this is good stuff on the whole. Also cool to think about the obvious little twinge of strangeness from Strumke affecting the traditional dark sour style of Alvinne.

Sampler from tap at Haandøl 2013. Misty nut brown body with a white rim. Brett notes, berries and marmelade invitingly present on the nose. Acidic, fruity with berries in the mouth, reminding me of unsweetened fruit juice. Medium bodied with a corn flake finish.
