English: We expected banjos and Bourbon but received nothing of that sort. Instead our brew day with the handsome fellers of Against The Grain Brewery from Louisville, Kentucky turned into a hotdog eating contest. Yep, no kiddin’. Big Kentuckian feller, Sam, challenged our own big feller, Jacob, as to who could down the most gourmet hotdogs, big and spicy as they were with specialty toppings. Well, Sam should never have done that….should you Sam? However, a beer was indeed brewed in between all the trash talk and wieners. We hope you’ll enjoy this hoppy Imperial Brown Ale - it was designed to go with hotdogs in particular and other spicy and smoked foods.

Medium beige head. Hazy brownish red body. Smoky spicy coffee aroma with chocolate notes. Actually smells like smoked tirami su. Sweetish resiny smoked and roasty taste with pine needle notes. Mild, mealy, faintly astringent mouthfeel. Mid-bodied. Dryish pine needle and roasty aftertaste with resiny earthy spicy notes. Weird. And not really in a good way. (0.5l bottle from Toft Vin, Copenhagen.)

Bottle from fonefan, many thanks Jan!

Boutip (4509) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 28, 2014
Bottle: Poured a deep brown color ale with a large light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of deep caramel malt with some fat earthy hops notes. Taste is also dominated by some deep caramel malt notes with some fat earthy hops with limited amount of residual sugars. Body is full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. A bit short on the amount of residual sugars and fat earthy hops are not the most interesting.

Gurthnar (1253) - Bratislava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - MAR 25, 2014
Bottle shared by MisoW. Chocolatey, cofeeish dark grained special. Hazy brown colour. Taste has coffee, caramel, but also quite strong hoppiness, which paradoxically comes up front. After the hops disappears, dark malts present themselves. Very good. Then the hops supports long bitter finish, which eventually ends up roasted. Flavour rollercoaster. Exceptional, even though not amongst the best.

Aroma of caramel, milk coffee, cacao, florqal hops.Taste starts sweet caramel malty with milk chocolate, cacao than continues with citrus hops, sweetness and hoppy bitterness are changing in waves. Long hoppy bitter finish. Interesting, easy drinkable beer.
